Spoilers for the Season 1 finale, “Winter Fire,” and the It films. The finale’s epilogue sends young Beverly Marsh to Juniper Hill, where she meets Ingrid Kersh—the woman connected to the elderly Mrs. Kersh Beverly encounters in It: Chapter Two. Co-creator Andy Muschietti said the scene was added late to create a visual link between the series and the films; co-showrunner Jason Fuchs said it came together during reshoots.
What happens in the finale’s epilogue?
After the children and adults return the dagger to the deadwood in an effort to restore the barrier containing It in Derry, Rich’s spirit helps his friends complete the task. The finale then moves through several farewells: Rich is memorialized, Rose entrusts the farm to the Hanlons, the Grogans leave, and Dick Hallorann heads toward a hotel job.
The final coda jumps forward 27 years from the series’ 1962 story to Juniper Hill. There, Beverly is grieving her mother when she encounters Ingrid Kersh. Sophia Lillis plays Beverly in the scene.
Who is Ingrid Kersh, and how does she connect to It: Chapter Two?
Ingrid is connected to the elderly Mrs. Kersh whom adult Beverly meets in It: Chapter Two. The epilogue gives that later encounter a suggested history: Beverly and Ingrid may have met when Beverly was a child, even though Beverly does not appear to consciously remember it as an adult.
#1 Best Overall
Fuchs has described the connection as tied to Beverly’s deeply repressed memories and the trauma surrounding her mother and abusive father. That is the creators’ intended implication, not a scene in which Beverly explicitly recalls the encounter. The finale establishes the meeting; it leaves the workings of Beverly’s memory unstated.
Why was Beverly’s cameo a last-minute idea?
Muschietti said he realized late in the process that the story needed a visual connection to the characters viewers know from the films. He had considered a broader coda, including an older Marge saying goodbye to Richie and Mike Hanlon at Leroy’s grave, but cut it back because the ending already felt crowded. Beverly and Ingrid offered a more focused bridge to It: Chapter Two.

Fuchs, the finale’s writer and co-showrunner, said the scene was absent from the original script and was developed during reshoots near the end of production. He described it as a very late decision made as the creative team looked for one more piece linking the series to the films.
What does the Marge and Richie reveal mean?
Pennywise tells Marge that she will grow up to become Richie Tozier’s mother. It shows her a missing-child poster with Richie’s image and says Richie and his friends will bring about its death—or its birth. The finale frames It as perceiving time nonlinearly, making its attempt to kill Marge before Richie is born understandable within the show’s premise.

The episode does not lay out a complete time-travel system or explain why It targets Marge rather than other future members of the Losers’ Club’s families. The reveal establishes the connection between Marge and Richie, but the precise rules and all the consequences remain open.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the ending confirm more seasons?
No. Muschietti described a creative blueprint that would move backward through Derry’s history: from the 1962 Black Spot fire to the 1935 Bradley Gang massacre and then the 1908 Easter egg hunt. He also said Stephen King’s novel raises questions about how It experiences time without supplying one definitive answer, and that the series expanded on that idea.

That outline describes the creators’ intended direction, not a confirmation that later seasons will be made. At the time of TVLine’s 2025 interview, HBO had not officially renewed the series.
