The distinction matters: a project in development can still change before production. The report does not provide a production start date or a firm release plan.
Will it be released in theaters or on Disney+?
A theatrical release is under consideration, according to Variety’s report. That is a possibility, not a confirmed distribution decision. The report does not establish whether the film will ultimately open in cinemas, arrive on a streaming service, or follow another release plan.
#1 Best Overall
- Conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters, a tricky trio of 300-year-old witches set out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth. But first, they must get their act together and outwit three kids and a talking cat.
When will Hocus Pocus 3 come out?
No release date has been reported. With the project described as being in early development, there is not enough information to give a reliable estimate. A date should be treated as unconfirmed unless Disney announces one.
What does the streaming record actually show?
The franchise has evidence of strong streaming viewership, but the available figures are historical rather than proof that it currently dominates streaming. Nielsen’s October 2022 report included Hocus Pocus 2 among that month’s five leading programs by minutes viewed. The accessible report passage does not give a title-specific minutes total.
Rank #2
- Factory sealed DVD
Variety’s May 7, 2026 report also says Hocus Pocus 2 drew 2.7 billion minutes viewed in its opening weekend and was Disney+’s most-watched original film over its first three days. Those are figures reported by Variety in its discussion of Nielsen and Disney viewing context; they should not be confused with a current ranking or a figure supplied in Nielsen’s October 2022 report.

Disney’s U.S. streaming page lists the 1993 Hocus Pocus among its Halloween favorites. That listing supports availability on Disney’s U.S. page, but streaming catalogs vary by country and can change. Check the Disney+ catalog in your region for current access. The listing is for the original film, not confirmation of where or when the third film will stream.
