Spoilers for Gen V Season 2, Episode 5, “The Kids Are Not All Right.” The episode opens with a flashback cameo from The Boys’ Sister Sage, then ends with a far more unsettling reveal: Marie revives her dead sister, Annabeth. Between those turns, Marie, Emma and Jordan are trapped again in Cipher’s Elmira facility, while Sam learns what his parents were told about his disappearance and his schizophrenia.
Who is the The Boys cameo in Episode 5?
Sister Sage, played by Susan Heyward, appears in the opening flashback at Cipher’s home. It is a brief crossover appearance that connects the episode to The Boys without making the rest of the story depend on a guest star. The cameo is a glimpse into Cipher’s past, not evidence by itself that the larger series has changed direction.

Why are Marie, Emma and Jordan back in Elmira?
After trying to save Cate, Marie, Emma and Jordan find themselves back inside Cipher’s facility in Elmira. Cipher uses Marie’s confinement and her potential as leverage, pressuring her to continue training. Marie’s abilities have grown, but the episode presents that growth alongside the danger of being controlled and pushed past her limits.
Cate’s powers are unreliable, yet she helps the group escape. Her assistance gets them out of immediate danger, though it does not resolve the larger conflict with Cipher.
#1 Best Overall
What does Sam learn from his parents?
Sam returns to his parents and discovers that Vought told them he was dead. They held a funeral believing he was gone. The visit also gives Sam an explanation for his schizophrenia: in the episode’s account, it runs in his family rather than being caused by Compound V. That is a plot revelation about Sam, not a clinical explanation of schizophrenia.
What does Cipher claim happened to Andre?
Cipher tells the group that Andre died during experimentation. That account conflicts with the earlier explanation that Andre overexerted himself while helping Emma and Jordan escape. Because the new version comes from Cipher, it should be read as his claim—not as a settled, independently confirmed account of Andre’s death.
What happens to Annabeth at the end?
The group reaches Annabeth, Marie’s sister, and finds her dead with her throat cut. Marie combines her abilities to close the wound and bring Annabeth back to life. The moment turns the episode’s final scene into a startling power reveal: Marie can apparently do more than manipulate blood to injure or heal in the ways previously shown.
Rank #2
Jaz Sinclair, who plays Marie, described the appeal of the character’s contradictions to TheWrap: “I love that she’s flawed. I love that she makes bad choices. I love that she’s clumsy and awkward … Any time I get to show a different aspect of Marie, it’s really fun.” The episode’s ending gives that range a new, consequential dimension.

The episode’s earlier dialogue also frames Marie’s growing confidence as her own perception: “I am stronger than I’ve ever been. I can feel it. When he was attacking me, I felt like I could destroy the whole arena.” That is Marie’s assessment, not an objective ranking of her power.
