Apple’s official listing identifies “When a Book Finds You” as Season 3, Episode 3 of Foundation. It was released July 25, 2025, runs 50 minutes, and is rated TV-MA. The episode is written by Eric Carrasco and Greg Goetz and directed by Tim Southam. Apple TV’s episode listing describes an unexpected alliance, a confrontation with the Mule, and Demerzel seeking spiritual guidance.
Gaal and Dawn try to get ahead of the Mule
Gaal and Dawn’s alliance grows out of a secret arrangement: Dawn had approached her for information about psychohistory. He tells Gaal that Demerzel possesses the Prime Radiant, and Gaal warns him that the Mule is a danger. She urges Dawn to press for an Enclosure of Kalgan while the Mule is isolated.
Dawn attempts to negotiate with the Mule remotely, but the effort does not resolve the threat. He then asks Day to convene an emergency Galactic Council session. Day refuses, arguing that doing so would put the dynasty at political risk. The disagreement leaves Dawn without the public response Gaal wants him to pursue.

The Mule learns Gaal’s name, but escapes are still possible
On Kalgan, Captain Pritcher tries to spy on the Mule during a gathering with Toran and Bayta Mallow. The Mule senses Pritcher, enters his mind, and extracts the name Gaal Dornick, forcing Pritcher to flee. Toran distracts the Mule, giving Bayta and Toran a chance to escape with Magnifico.
The encounter is a turning point, not a defeat for the Mule. He has gained a link to Gaal, while Bayta, Toran, and Magnifico get away. The recap presents the Mule as allowing their escape to unfold without showing alarm; it does not establish that he has been beaten or outmaneuvered for good.

Day’s escape plan costs him Song
Day and Song enlist Commander Mavon to help them leave the palace for Mycogen. During the plan, Day tells Song that Demerzel is a robot. But Song’s connection to the Inheritance—an illegal faith that worships robots—has already exposed her to Demerzel.
Demerzel spares Song’s life, but erases her memories and sends her away. The immediate consequence for Day is not simply that the escape fails: Song is removed from his life and no longer remembers him. Day responds with anger toward Demerzel.
