Adrienne Barbeau appears in Duster as Evelyn Breen, and Mikaela Hoover plays a younger version of Barbeau as a character. The casting deliberately uses Barbeau’s real identity, but Evelyn’s FBI-related story is fictional—not a portrayal of Barbeau’s life.
Who is the cameo in Duster?
Barbeau guest-stars in episode 2 as Evelyn Breen, the secretive wife of an FBI agent, according to TheWrap’s May 22, 2025 interview. Mikaela Hoover portrays a younger version of Barbeau as a character in the episode.
The two performances are part of the same casting idea: the show introduces Barbeau herself and also imagines a younger version of her within its story. Barbeau told TheWrap that co-creator J.J. Abrams called to say, “we want to use Adrienne Barbeau as a character.” He also suggested another actor play her at a younger age. Barbeau said she was “just tickled pink, actually.”
Is Evelyn Breen based on Adrienne Barbeau’s real life?
No. The real-life element is Barbeau’s appearance and the show’s use of her name and public persona. Evelyn Breen’s marriage, FBI connections, and actions belong to the scripted drama; the available reporting does not present them as biographical facts about Barbeau.

The casting nod draws on Barbeau’s career and her association with the era. TheWrap notes that her 1972 Broadway production of Grease led to Maude, and identifies The Fog and Escape from New York among her best-known films. The Washington Post’s overview of the series places it among the period touchstones in this 1970s-set crime drama, co-created by Abrams and LaToya Morgan and starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson.
How Barbeau’s cameo differs from the Nixon appearance
Duster has another prominent historical-person cameo, but it is separate from Barbeau’s episode 2 role. TV Insider reported on June 12, 2025 that episode 5 features a CGI-enhanced Richard Nixon and a fictional Watergate-related mystery for the characters to investigate. Co-creator Morgan described that plot device as drawing on history while leaving room for invention.
