Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle opened to an estimated $70 million in the United States and Canada, the biggest domestic opening ever for an anime film, according to the Associated Press, citing Comscore estimates. The record is for the opening weekend—not the film’s lifetime North American gross.
What record did Infinity Castle break?
The film set the record for the largest North American opening weekend by an anime film. The Associated Press reported the estimated $70 million debut in 2025, with “domestic” referring to the United States and Canada. The previous benchmark was Pokémon: The First Movie, which opened to $31 million in 1999, according to the AP. Read the AP report.
That distinction matters: an opening-weekend record measures a film’s initial debut, while a lifetime-gross record measures ticket sales across its full theatrical run. The reported $70 million figure establishes the former, not the latter.
How does the IMAX figure compare?
IMAX Corporation reported that the film earned $13 million on North American IMAX screens during opening weekend, equal to 19% of the domestic debut. IMAX also called it the biggest domestic IMAX opening ever for a local-language release. That is a separate, format-specific record; it is not the total for all North American theatres. What do later box-office totals show?
Crunchyroll News reported a North American cumulative total of $104.7 million after the film’s second weekend in 2025. That is a dated mid-run figure, not a final lifetime total. Read the 2025 update.
Japan’s theatrical total is a different market and should not be confused with North American domestic gross. Crunchyroll News reported that the Japanese run had exceeded ¥40 billion by April 10, 2026, citing Toho and the official Demon Slayer account. Read the Japan box-office report.

Why a final North American total needs a date
The film returned to theatres in the United States and Canada on March 6, 2026. The official Demon Slayer site said the screenings included Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub, as well as SCREENX presentations. Its announcement confirms another theatrical run, but does not give a final North American lifetime gross. See the official release announcement.
Because the re-release could add ticket sales after the 2025 figures, a claim about the eventual North American total needs a source and a reporting date after that return. The $70 million opening record remains a claim about the initial weekend, regardless of later cumulative totals.

Where does the film fit in the series?
Infinity Castle is the first film in a planned three-part trilogy and brings Tanjiro Kamado and his sister Nezuko into the franchise’s climactic showdown. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment distributed the North American release, according to the official series site. The series framing explains why the release attracted attention, but it does not change what the box-office record measures.
