Opening weekend: $444.1 million
Disney reported that Deadpool & Wolverine opened to $444.1 million globally in 2024, then the highest-grossing global opening for an R-rated film. That was an opening-weekend milestone, not the film’s eventual worldwide total. Disney’s July 28, 2024 report also quoted Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige: “Nothing strengthens the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps any cinematic universe like a great movie.”

After 23 days: $1.086 billion
On August 16, 2024, Disney said the film had reached $1.086 billion worldwide after 23 days and had become the highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide at that point. This was another dated milestone; it is not a competing estimate of the later total. Disney’s August 16, 2024 update.
Why the original “about to” phrasing is outdated
“About to destroy” describes a future possibility, but the totals now listed by Box Office Mojo show that Deadpool & Wolverine has already surpassed Iron Man 3 worldwide. The publication date of the original headline is not established, so it cannot be assessed as a forecast made at a particular moment.
