Ballard, the Bosch: Legacy spin-off, has been renewed for Season 2 on Prime Video, and Maggie Q will return as LAPD detective Renée Ballard. Amazon announced the renewal on October 6, 2025. It has not announced a premiere date or Season 2 story details.
What the Season 2 update confirms
Amazon renewed Ballard, the detective drama based on Michael Connelly’s novels. This is a renewal for Ballard, not a new season of Bosch: Legacy. Amazon MGM Studios executive Lauren Lancaster said the Bosch universe would continue to expand with the series’ second season. Amazon’s renewal announcement also confirms Maggie Q’s return as Ballard.
The announcement quotes co-showrunners and executive producers Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood, as well as Connelly, the novels’ author and an executive producer. Their comments express enthusiasm about continuing the story and appreciation for viewers; they do not provide audience figures or ratings.
When will Ballard Season 2 come out?
Amazon has not announced a Season 2 premiere date in its renewal announcement. It also has not disclosed the new season’s plot, episode count, or additional cast. There is no confirmed release window to report, so any specific timing would be speculation.

Where to watch Ballard and how to catch up
Amazon lists Ballard on Prime Video. Its viewing guide says all 10 episodes of Season 1 debuted there on July 9, 2025. The renewal announcement describes the series as exclusive to Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories; that is Amazon’s stated service reach, not a viewership figure, and access can vary by market.
Ballard follows LAPD detective Renée Ballard as she investigates cold cases, with help from Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver. Ballard was introduced in the Bosch: Legacy series finale, linking the shows within the same television universe. Amazon says Bosch: Legacy ran for three seasons from 2022 to 2025, after the original Bosch series ran for seven seasons from 2014 to 2021. Amazon’s viewing guide provides the series and episode information; check Prime Video in your territory for current access.

How the show connects to Michael Connelly’s books
The series draws on Connelly’s Renée Ballard novels, but it is not a one-book-per-season adaptation. Amazon notes that Season 1 uses material from multiple books and takes creative license, so the novels are best treated as source material rather than a precise guide to Season 2.
For readers who want to meet Ballard on the page, start with The Late Show (2017), her first novel appearance. Amazon also names Dark Sacred Night (2018), The Night Fire (2019), The Dark Hours (2021), Desert Star (2022), and The Waiting (2024) among the later books. Amazon’s guide to the novels and series discusses the books and adaptation.
