Julie Chen Moonves reacted to the affectionate dynamic between Big Brother 27 houseguests Vince Panaro and Morgan Pope by jokingly calling it a “hugmance.” In a September 5, 2025 recap of her weekly commentary, BuddyTV quoted the host saying, “I know if I were Vince’s girlfriend, I wouldn’t be happy with him.” The remark was her reaction to the behavior described in the report—not a declaration about the pair’s relationship status.
What Julie Chen Moonves said about the “hugmance”
BuddyTV’s September 5, 2025 report described Vince and Morgan’s extended hugs and caresses as a “hugmance,” a playful label for their on-screen closeness. In that context, Moonves said, “I know if I were Vince’s girlfriend, I wouldn’t be happy with him.” The report placed her comment amid discussion of Vince having a girlfriend outside the house.
The label was not a formal relationship status. Moonves was offering a candid reaction to the behavior as it appeared on the show; her comment does not establish what either contestant intended or how Vince’s girlfriend viewed it.
How Morgan and Vince described their connection
Morgan’s perspective
On September 9, 2025, Swooon reported that Morgan called Vince “strictly a friend” and said she respected his relationship. After the finale, in a September 29 interview, she reiterated her view: “I stand by what I said to Julie [Chen Moonves], like it was a strictly friendship, platonic relationship for me.”

Vince’s perspective
In that same post-finale interview, Vince described Morgan as a friend: “[Morgan]’s an awesome friend. She is such a good friend, and she’s a local to LA. So I hope that we’re friends outside of this.” The interview said they connected in part because they were the season’s two contestants from Los Angeles, talking about local places and strategizing together.
These are each contestant’s own descriptions. Morgan’s account speaks to her perspective, and Vince’s words describe how he characterized the friendship; neither statement settles every outside interpretation of what viewers saw.
Why viewers debated the pair’s closeness
The discussion combined visible affection with the reported fact that Vince had a girlfriend of seven years at home. Some fans used terms such as “cheatmance,” but that is a fan characterization, not an established finding of infidelity. The available reports document Moonves’s reaction and the contestants’ later statements, not private motives or a definitive account of their relationship.
The September 29 post-finale interview said Vince and Morgan spent 83 days in the house. That figure describes their time in the Big Brother 27 house, not the length or status of a relationship outside the game.

Moonves’s later comments on showmances
In a July 1, 2026 Us Weekly interview about showmances more generally, Moonves said the ones that work are “the ones that know how to not rub people the wrong way.” The article also noted there is no hard-and-fast rule that determines how far a showmance advances. That broader observation offers context about the show’s social dynamics, but it does not revise her earlier, specific reaction to Vince and Morgan.
