Harris Dickinson said some reactions to Babygirl crossed a line from discussing the film’s sexual themes into intrusive comments and behavior directed at him. He described screening anecdotes in a December 2024 interview, then recounted further experiences at press events, Q&As and on a flight in 2025. He has also said he welcomed the film’s role in helping viewers feel sexually liberated.
What fans said after Babygirl screenings
In a December 24, 2024 interview with Vogue, published before the film’s US release on Christmas Day, Dickinson described audience reactions as a range “from thought-provoking to filthy.” He recalled one older woman telling him, “Well, I can’t wait to get home and use that vibrator.” He also recounted another woman saying she had nobody to sleep with and tickling him.
These were separate screening anecdotes, not remarks from the later podcast discussion. Dickinson presented them as examples of viewers speaking freely after watching a film centered on sexual themes. Babygirl, directed by Halina Reijn, stars Nicole Kidman as Romy, a high-powered CEO, and Dickinson as Samuel, an intern involved with her. The film’s subject matter can prompt candid discussion; it does not make personal comments or unwanted familiarity toward an actor appropriate.
What he described at press events and on a flight
In September 2025, Dickinson discussed additional experiences on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. Us Weekly, reporting on the September 25 appearance, quoted him describing some women’s comments as “deeply inappropriate.” He said that at press events and Q&As, some situations were “completely unacceptable,” yet people expected him to laugh them off. “You’re expected to just laugh it off, and I think that’s why I struggled with that experience,” he said.

Dickinson also recalled an encounter on a flight: a woman asked him to dance for her and hinted at where she had watched the film. He said he did not want to hear about her sexual experience with the story. The Evening Standard, in a September 26 report, noted his view that some fans had reduced the film’s reception to that kind of response. Dickinson said he was proud of the film and valued working with Reijn and Kidman.

Dickinson’s objection was not that viewers discussed sex or responded openly to Babygirl. In a November 18, 2025 profile for Vanity Fair, he said he was glad the film started a conversation and helped people feel sexually liberated. He also described older women sharing provocative fantasies with him, and drew a distinction between finding an encounter laughable and accepting it: “It’s something you can laugh off, but it’s not necessarily acceptable.”

His point was about the shift from talking about a film to directing sexual remarks or behavior at the person who acted in it—and about the pressure to treat that conduct as harmless by laughing along. The interviews do not establish how common such incidents are among actors or audiences; they document Dickinson’s own accounts, not a prevalence study.
