Mike Myers answered “Yes” when asked in June 2026 whether another film would happen, while a September report said the sequel was not yet in production. And the claim that Jim Carrey was going to play Dr. Evil is not verified by the available evidence.
Is Austin Powers 4 happening?
There are signs that Mike Myers remains open to returning, but no confirmed shoot, studio greenlight, release date or production plan has been reported. The clearest recent evidence is Myers’s brief answer and a later status report from Seth Green; those statements address different things.
- June 2026: Asked whether there would be an Austin Powers 4, Myers answered “Yes,” according to reports by Variety and TheWrap. The reports gave no further details from him.
- September 2026: Filmofilia reported that Green said the sequel was not yet in production. That is a reported update, not an official studio cancellation.
So the most accurate status is renewed interest without confirmation that the film is moving into production.
What has the director said about a fourth film?
In a 2019 interview with The Independent, director Jay Roach said the team had been trying to find an idea that could justify a fourth film, but that the decision was ultimately up to Myers. Roach added that he and Myers felt there was more to explore with Dr. Evil, and said he would be willing to return if Myers worked out the story.

Roach also said that if they found a way to make another film, they would want to pay tribute to Verne Troyer, who played Mini-Me. His comments establish the director’s willingness and a creative possibility, not an approved script or production.
What did Seth Green say about the odds?
In February 2025, Green described the chances of a fourth Austin Powers film as “50/50” in an interview with ComicBook. He also recalled Myers floating the idea of a Dr. Evil trilogy while they worked on The Pentaverate. That was Green recounting a conversation; it was not an announcement that a spinoff was being developed.

Was Jim Carrey going to play Dr. Evil?
That casting claim is not established by the available evidence. A claim that Myers initially sought Carrey for the role has circulated, but the sources reviewed do not confirm that Carrey was formally approached, offered the part or turned it down. It would therefore be inaccurate to say Carrey “was going to play” Dr. Evil as a fact.
Dr. Evil is part of the original series’ story, but the casting question should remain open unless a reliable, clearly attributed account confirms what happened.
