In the 9-1-1: Lone Star series-finale preview, TK and Carlos speak by phone in the minutes before the asteroid reaches Austin. Their conversation turns on the adoption setback that has left them uncertain about bringing TK’s half-brother Jonah into their family. They do not say goodbye: the preview’s reported final words between them are “I love you.”
What happens in the finale sneak peek?
The preview is for Season 5, Episode 12, the series finale. Published February 3, 2025, it looks back to the minutes before the asteroid touches down in Austin. TK is on duty at the station, while Carlos, a Texas Ranger, has been assigned to the 9-1-1 call center. The clip centers on their phone conversation—not the asteroid destroying the city.
Entertainment Weekly’s Patrick Gomez, in a preview syndicated by Yahoo, reports that Carlos tells TK, “No goodbyes,” and that they end the call with “I love you.” Those are the preview’s reported lines; the available coverage does not independently transcribe every visual or line in the footage. Why are TK and Carlos talking about Jonah?
The emotional weight of the call comes from the couple’s effort to adopt Jonah, TK’s half-brother. They have not been cleared to adopt him. The coverage says the social worker raised concerns about their dangerous jobs and the possibility that Jonah could lose more parental figures.

That conflict was established in the preceding episode. In its January 26, 2025 preview of Episode 11, TV Insider reported that TK and Carlos met with a social worker, who asked about their long hours and hazardous work. Co-showrunner Rashad Raisani said the episode would play out the emotion between the couple over the adoption and that it would cover that background. Read TV Insider’s Episode 11 preview.

The call places an intimate relationship crisis beside an impending disaster. TVLine’s February 3 finale preview also describes the pre-impact setup: Carlos and Wyatt are at the call center, while Owen and the rest of the 126 shelter under trucks at the station. Its interview with Raisani frames the series’ intent in human terms: “We’re never trying to be activists. We’re just trying to tell human stories about acceptance and love and peace.” Read TVLine’s finale preview and interview.

The adoption thread gives the call its immediate stakes; the asteroid supplies the ticking clock. The preview’s reported choice not to say goodbye makes their exchange a moment of closeness rather than a farewell scene.
