Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren return as Jacob and Cara Dutton as winter, family danger and threats to the Dutton legacy take center stage. The word “war” is best read as trailer framing: Paramount’s official synopsis describes harsh conditions and adversaries, not a literal war.
What the season 2 trailer sets up
Paramount’s promotional synopsis says a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara Dutton at the ranch. Harsh conditions and adversaries threaten the Dutton legacy. It also points to two journeys: Spencer races home to Montana to save his family, while Alexandra crosses the Atlantic to find Spencer and reclaim their love. These are the studio’s descriptions of the season’s setup, not confirmation of every scene or development in the trailer.

The official announcement does not describe the season as a literal war. Its emphasis is on winter hardship, danger to the family and adversaries facing the Duttons.
Who returns in season 2
Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton and Helen Mirren plays Cara Dutton. Paramount’s season 2 announcement also names Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, Sebastian Roché, Timothy Dalton and Jennifer Carpenter. Paramount Global Content identifies Sklenar as Spencer Dutton, Schlaepfer as Alexandra, Flynn as Banner Creighton, Mann as Jack Dutton, Geraghty as Zane Davis and Nieves as Teonna Rainwater.
When season 2 premiered
Paramount+ announced on January 19, 2025 that season 2 would premiere Sunday, February 23, 2025, exclusively on the service. That date is in the past; it is the originally announced premiere date, not an upcoming release. Paramount had announced an official teaser earlier, on December 15, 2024.

Where to check availability now
The original announcement named Paramount+ as the exclusive platform for the season’s premiere. Whether season 2 is currently available in a particular territory should be checked on that territory’s official Paramount+ listing, since the historical announcement does not establish today’s catalogue or regional availability. Paramount+ describes itself as a subscription video-on-demand and live-streaming service.
