The emotional moment behind the headline centers on Caeneus, the trans character played by Misia Butler in Netflix’s KAOS. Butler said a long conversation scene filmed on his first day left him and a colleague, Charlie, crying and hugging. He connected the scene to the kind of representation he wished he could have seen as a child.
What happened on Butler’s first day filming KAOS?
In an interview with Radio Times, Butler recalled filming a long conversation on a bench on his first day as Caeneus. After the scene, he and a colleague named Charlie were moved to tears and hugged.

Butler explained why the moment affected him so deeply: “And I was like, I just know that if I was watching this scene as the child that I was, I would feel immeasurably seen, and just have had a much stronger experience, because I would have been represented in such a strong way.”
Why did the scene matter to Butler?
Butler’s reflection links the scene’s emotional weight to seeing a trans character portrayed with depth. He imagined how meaningful that representation could have been to him as a child. The point is not that Caeneus exists only to represent trans people: Butler’s account also insists on the character’s life beyond that identity.

The headline’s storyline refers to Caeneus’s trans story and the scene Butler described—not a claim that every cast and crew member cried. The account specifically names Butler and his colleague Charlie.
Who is Caeneus in KAOS?
Netflix’s Tudum describes Caeneus as someone who has been dead for ten years, living an unchanging life in the Underworld until an unexpected promotion and a meeting with a stranger alter his course. Butler has described him as a reluctant hero.

Creator Charlie Covell framed the character’s heroism as a contrast with more familiar versions of the myth: “In versions of the myth, he becomes a very macho, violent warrior. Our Caeneus is the opposite of that. He is a warrior in a much gentler, much more self-sacrificing way.”
