The New York Ripper is Don Framt, played by Brian Cox in season two, according to Paramount’s official promotion. The finale’s name reveal gives viewers a reason to look back—but the available evidence does not establish that Framt was visibly hiding in earlier scenes or that viewers should have recognized him. The identity is confirmed; the “hiding in plain sight” interpretation is not.
Who is the New York Ripper in Dexter: Resurrection?
Paramount identifies the killer as Don Framt, also called the New York Ripper, and confirms that Brian Cox will play him in season two. In its April 2, 2026 casting announcement, Paramount described the Ripper as “a serial killer who terrorized the City years ago.” Paramount Press Express
Season-one finale coverage reports that the Ripper’s file reveals the name Don Framt. Paramount’s subsequent season-two promotion makes the connection explicit by naming Cox as “Don Framt/The New York Ripper.” Paramount’s season-two trailer breakdown The official announcement confirms the character and casting; it does not by itself show that Framt appeared earlier in the season.

Was the New York Ripper hiding in plain sight?
That claim goes beyond what the available evidence establishes. A name revealed in the finale can prompt viewers to revisit earlier episodes, but a retrospective theory is not proof of foreshadowing. The official finale companion page confirms that Paramount published an episode-ten postmortem, but its available description does not list visual clues or dialogue identifying Framt beforehand. Paramount+
To establish that a character was “hiding in plain sight,” an analysis would need to identify specific earlier scenes and distinguish what is plainly shown from what the finale makes newly meaningful. Without verified scene details, it would be misleading to present a shot, line, or encounter as a confirmed clue.

What the season-one theories do—and don’t—prove
Viewers speculated about the Ripper’s identity while season one was airing. For example, CinemaBlend’s coverage of episode eight framed its proposed identity as a theory, not a reveal. CinemaBlend’s episode-eight coverage That shows the mystery invited speculation; it does not confirm any particular guess or prove that audiences collectively missed Framt in earlier scenes.
The most accurate way to describe the twist is therefore narrow: the finale reportedly supplies the name Don Framt, and Paramount now confirms that Framt is the New York Ripper portrayed by Cox. Whether the season planted recognizable clues beforehand remains a separate question.
