Queensland tradie brothers Rhys and Liam Almond won Seven’s 2024 renovation contest Dream Home, edging Lara and Peter Bird in the finale. Their backyard transformation helped secure the title, with the brothers scoring 37.5 out of 40 and taking home a prize that included $100,000.
How Rhys and Liam Almond won the finale
The Almonds were one of six teams competing in the 2024 season. In the finale, the judges’ decision turned on the completed backyard at Liam’s Deception Bay home. The transformation created a separate outdoor living area and added a pavilion, making the landscape reveal a decisive strength.
The judges were Lana Taylor, Simon Cohen and Rosie Morley. Taylor called the space an “oasis.” Cohen praised the separate living area as an asset for a family home, while Morley said the pavilion’s scale suited the house.
Final scores: Almond brothers versus the Birds
| Finalists | Final score | What stood out |
|---|---|---|
| Rhys and Liam Almond | 37.5 out of 40 | The transformed backyard, including a separate living area and pavilion |
| Lara and Peter Bird | 37 out of 40 | Their Belrose backyard |
The Birds finished half a point behind. Simon Cohen, a buyer’s agent and judge, said of the Almonds’ outdoor space: “You created a whole separate living area, which is just a massive tick for any family home.” PerthNow reported the scores and judges’ comments on July 9, 2024.

The prize and the Deception Bay Queenslander
The prize included $100,000. Liam’s rundown Deception Bay Queenslander was the teams’ entry: fellow contestants renovated the home as part of the competition. PerthNow reported its post-renovation valuation at $1.6 million; that figure is a reported valuation, not a sale price.
What the brothers said about competing together
In PerthNow’s July 9, 2024 report, Liam described the experience as a chance to reconnect with his brother: “Rhys and I are mates, but we got to be brothers again, living under the one roof.” He also said, “Doing this with Rhys was one of the most meaningful and exciting things about the competition.”
