Usually, yes—if the other person watches through the Amazon account that bought the movie. The title generally appears in that account’s Prime Video library on compatible devices. But an Amazon Household member using a separate account should not expect to receive a purchased or rented movie, and a download is not a transferable video file. These rules are framed for the United States; availability and limits can vary by country, title, device, and subscription.
What kind of Prime Video title did you pay for?
“Bought on Prime Video” can mean different things, and the distinction affects access. Amazon’s Prime Video Terms of Use describe separate rules for digital purchases, rentals, subscription content, and other time-limited access.
- Purchase: Licensed access to the title, generally for repeated streaming and, where supported, offline download. It is not ownership of a transferable video file.
- Rental: Temporary access with a title-specific viewing window. It does not become a permanent library purchase.
- Prime subscription title: Included with an eligible subscription while available under that service. It is not the same as a movie bought separately.
- Third-party channel or pay-per-view: Access and stream limits may follow separate rules. Check the service or title page.
If you are unsure which applies, check the transaction in your Amazon digital-order history and the title’s page.
Who can watch a purchased movie?

How to watch it on another device
- Install the Prime Video app or open Prime Video in a supported browser on the TV, phone, tablet, or computer.
- Sign in with the Amazon account that made the purchase—not just an account belonging to an Amazon Household member.
- Select an appropriate profile. Profiles can separate recommendations and watch history, but they do not transfer ownership.
- Open the library area. Depending on the device and current app interface, it may be called My Stuff or Purchases & Rentals.
- Choose the movie and select Play. If the device is shared or public, sign out when finished.
Amazon says purchased videos can generally be streamed on compatible browsers and devices, but not every title is available on every platform. Device support and title availability can differ by location.
Does Amazon Household share the purchase?
Do not rely on Amazon Household to move a movie you bought or rented into another adult’s account. Amazon’s staff response on purchased videos says purchased and rented Prime Video titles cannot be shared across Amazon accounts or Family profiles. Amazon Household can share certain Prime benefits and eligible content, but that does not make a transactional video purchase a separate-account entitlement. Older explanations can blur subscription-included viewing with movies bought individually. An older Amazon forum explanation likewise distinguishes videos available through Prime membership from purchased titles. For a household member who needs their own account, do not assume a purchase will carry over.
Can two people watch at the same time?
Amazon’s usage rules state that one account can stream up to three videos simultaneously, while the same purchased video may be streamed on up to two devices at once under the applicable regional rules. Those are account-level limits, not a guarantee that any three devices can play any content. A rental, a third-party channel, a particular title, or regional restrictions may impose a tighter limit.

If you want to watch together remotely, simultaneous playback might be possible through the purchasing account within those limits, but Amazon’s rules do not establish a general watch-party entitlement for purchased movies. Do not use screen recording or methods that bypass content protection.
How rentals differ
Amazon’s usage rules commonly describe rentals as available for up to 30 days to start watching and, once playback or download begins, usually 48 hours to finish. The title page controls the specific rental period, so check it before starting. The same rental may be limited to one device at a time, and a rental download may be restricted to one compatible device.

If two people plan to watch a rental, coordinate before pressing play: starting it can begin the shorter viewing window, and a second device may not be able to stream the same title at the same time.

No. Downloading is an offline-viewing option for supported devices, not a way to give someone a copy. Amazon’s terms prohibit transferring, copying, distributing, or broadcasting digital content and circumventing its protection systems except where expressly permitted. Do not email or copy the file, upload it, screen-record it, or remove its protections. The license is for personal, private, noncommercial viewing—not public exhibition or commercial use.

Why is the movie missing from the library?
Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm that the app or browser is signed into the exact Amazon account used for the transaction.
- Check Amazon’s digital-order history in a browser and confirm the transaction completed.
- Verify that it was a purchase, not a rental, preorder, subscription title, or purchase made through another retailer or app store.
- Look in the Prime Video library’s Purchases & Rentals area; labels vary by device.
- Sign out and back in to refresh the app. If needed, update or reinstall Prime Video.
- Check profile restrictions, parental controls, and whether the device is supported in your country.
- Consider whether licensing or catalog availability changed. Amazon says purchased digital content may become unavailable for licensing or other reasons.
- If it is still missing, contact Amazon customer service with the order number.
A movie bought through Apple, Google, a TV manufacturer’s store, or another marketplace may not appear in Amazon’s library. Check which merchant billed the transaction and use that provider’s app and account.
What if you want someone with a separate account to watch?
- Same household: The practical option is usually to watch through the purchasing account on a compatible household device, using a separate profile if useful. This does not transfer the title to the other person’s account.
- Different household: Avoid sharing your Amazon password broadly. It can expose payment methods, orders, watch history, and account settings, and may not fit Amazon’s account or service expectations.
- Independent access: The clearest route is for the other person to acquire access through their own account, subject to the title’s availability and the provider’s terms.
- Transferable copy: A Blu-ray or DVD is a more suitable option when you want a physical copy that can be handed to someone, though it is less convenient than streaming.
Amazon describes a digital purchase as licensed access, not an indefinitely guaranteed or transferable asset. The terms say a purchased title may become unavailable because of licensing restrictions or other reasons.
Can you cancel the purchase?
Amazon’s terms provide a general cancellation mechanism for purchased or rented digital content within 48 hours, subject to conditions. Once playback or downloading has begun, cancellation may no longer be available. The terms also distinguish rules for UK and EU customers; this article is focused on the United States. Check Amazon’s current terms or contact customer service rather than assuming a refund is guaranteed.
