Snapchat+ is a paid subscription that adds more than 40 exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features to the free Snapchat app. Depending on the plan and what is available in your region, those features include Story tools, friend-ranking options, extra Snap and chat controls, customization, AI-powered Lenses, additional Memories storage, and fewer Story and Lens ads. It is not a separate app, a verification program, or a promise of more views. Snapchat’s plans and feature list can change, so check the price and features shown in your account before subscribing.
What Snapchat+ includes—and what it doesn’t
Snapchat+ is an optional recurring subscription layered on top of Snapchat. Snapchat describes it as a package of more than 40 features, including exclusive, experimental, and pre-release tools. Some are practical controls; others are cosmetic or social. Snapchat can test, rename, move, or retire individual features, and availability can differ by region, device, account, app version, and plan. Snapchat’s feature overview is the current reference for its list.
A Snapchat+ badge indicates a subscription; it is not identity verification or a Snap Star badge. A subscription also does not guarantee more followers, Story views, or creator replies. If you only use Snapchat occasionally, the free app may be enough.
Snapchat+ plans compared
The plans Snapchat offers depend on location and may still be rolling out. The support page does not give one universal U.S. price: check the live Snapchat+ paywall or the relevant app store for the amount, billing period, taxes, and renewal terms that apply to you. Lens+ and Platinum are rolling out gradually, may not be available in every region, and are not available through Snapchat+ web subscriptions. Platinum removes specified Story and Lens ads, not every kind of sponsored content. Snapchat’s Platinum plan details describe the remaining sponsored content. Friend and relationship features
- #1 Best Friend: Privately pins one person as your No. 1 Best Friend in your Snapchat experience. It does not make you that person’s No. 1 Best Friend.
- Extended Best Friends List: Gives you more visibility into your own Best Friends ranking.
- Friends in Chat: Shows when friends are present in a chat-related context, subject to feature availability and its privacy behavior.
- Solar System: Represents your position in another person’s Best Friends list as a planet; a planet nearer the sun represents a higher position. The feature covers the eight Best Friends positions and is off by default for first-time subscribers. It reflects a ranking, not an objective measure of emotional closeness. These tools can make perceived friendship rankings more visible. Consider whether that information is useful to you before enabling or interpreting it.
Story and audience features
- Story Boost: Temporarily boosts Story visibility. Snapchat does not promise a particular number of views, placement, or increase in followers.
- Story Rewatch: Shows a rewatch count where available. It does not identify the people who rewatched, and the count is not total replays across all viewers.
- Story Timestamps: Adds more precise timing information to Story activity.
- Story View Notifications: Provides notifications connected with Story-viewing activity.
- Priority Story Replies: Makes replies to eligible public or creator Stories more prominent to the recipient; it cannot guarantee that a creator will see or answer.
- Post View Emoji: Lets you choose an emoji that appears after someone views your Snap.
- Custom Story Expiration: Offers more control over how long a Story remains available than the standard options.
These tools provide different kinds of information. A view count, rewatch count, timestamp, and notification are not interchangeable, and none should be treated as a complete record of who saw or replayed a Story.

Snap, chat, and Streak controls
- Replay Again: Lets you replay a Snap more than once, subject to Snapchat’s restrictions.
- Replay Your Own Snaps: Lets you replay your own sent Snaps in supported circumstances.
- Lightning Snaps: Offers a shorter viewing duration for Snaps where the option is available.
- Instant Streaks: Helps create or restore a Snapstreak more quickly in supported situations.
- Streak Restore: Lets you restore an eligible recently expired Streak; it is not a way to recover any old Streak without limit.
- Custom Notification Sounds and Custom Ringtone Sounds: Let you customize supported notification or call-related sounds.
- Custom Chat Colors and Chat Wallpapers: Change the appearance of supported chats.
- Generative Chat Wallpapers: Use generative tools to create or customize a chat background.
- Peek a Peek: Indicates when someone is peeking into a chat. It is designed to show activity while you are actively using Snapchat, not to act as a permanent receipt for all chat reading.
Customization features
- Custom App Icon: Replaces the standard Snapchat icon with an available alternative design.
- Custom App Themes: Changes supported parts of Snapchat’s appearance.
- Bitmoji Backgrounds: Adds more profile or Bitmoji background choices.
- Exclusive Bitmoji Pet and Car Options: Adds subscriber-only Bitmoji choices.
- Home Tab: Provides a customized Snapchat home experience where supported.
- Snapchat+ Badge: Adds a subscription badge to your profile; it is not identity verification.
These are mainly personalization options. Their value depends on whether you want to change how Snapchat looks, rather than on gaining a guaranteed audience or account status.
AI and creative features
- AI Captions: Uses AI-assisted tools to generate or style captions.
- AI Creative Tools: Provides access to AI-powered creative features. The available tools can change, so a fixed set of prompts or outputs is not guaranteed.
- Generative Profile Backgrounds: Creates AI-generated profile backgrounds.
- Create a Bio for My AI: Lets you create or customize a bio for My AI.
- Lens+ GenAI Lenses: Exclusive generative-AI-powered Lenses are included with Lens+ and Platinum, not necessarily with standard Snapchat+. Lens+ and Platinum have monthly generation allowances that reset on the billing date; they are not unlimited AI plans. Snapchat explains the Lens+ allowance and features here.
Gifting and discounts
Eligible subscribers can gift Snapchat+ for three, six, or twelve months. A gift is a one-time purchase, not a recurring subscription. If the recipient already has an active subscription, the gift may not start until that subscription ends. See Snapchat’s feature and gifting help topic.

Snapchat may offer promotions. Redeem offers only through Snapchat, its official website, or a partner-specific URL; avoid unofficial sellers. Snapchat’s discount information explains its approach to promotions.
How to subscribe
In the Snapchat app
- Open Snapchat and go to your Profile or My Account.
- Tap the Snapchat+ banner card at the top. If it is missing, dismiss other banner cards in your Profile and check again.
- Choose an available subscription and review the displayed price, billing period, and renewal terms.
- Confirm through the relevant app store.
- Restart Snapchat if the features do not appear immediately.
On the web
- Go to snapchat.com/plus and select Subscribe on web.
- Choose an available subscription, then sign in or create an account.
- Enter payment information and accept the Snapchat+ terms.
- Restart the app if needed. Manage a web subscription in Snapchat’s account portal under Accounts → My Subscription.
Plan options can differ between the app and web. In particular, Lens+ and Platinum are not available through Snapchat+ web subscriptions. Snapchat’s official steps are in its mobile subscription guide and web subscription guide.

How to cancel—and what happens afterward
Cancel through the place where you bought the subscription: Apple’s subscription settings for an iPhone purchase, Google Play for an Android purchase, or Snapchat’s account portal for a web purchase. Cancellation generally stops renewal, while access continues through the paid term. For U.S. subscribers, Snapchat says access continues to the end of the current monthly or annual term. An iOS free trial must be canceled at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid renewal.

When Snapchat+ is worth paying for
It may suit you if you use several features often
- You post Stories frequently and will use additional Story tools.
- You care about customization, Bitmoji options, or chat appearance.
- You use Snapstreaks heavily and value eligible Streak tools.
- You want extra replay controls or friend-ranking information.
- You regularly use Snapchat’s AI or Lens tools and have access to the relevant plan.
- You are choosing a Family Plan for three regular Snapchat users, or need the storage included with a higher tier.
- You have Platinum available and specifically want fewer Story and Lens ads.
It may not suit you if your main goal is reach or status
- You use Snapchat only occasionally or do not care about its extra controls and customization.
- You expect more followers, guaranteed Story views, or verification.
- You want every ad and sponsored placement removed.
- You want unlimited AI generations.
- You are considering a plan for one feature that may change or be retired.
For most people, Snapchat+ is a feature-and-customization subscription, not a requirement for using Snapchat. Its value is strongest when you will use several included tools regularly; the free app remains the straightforward alternative if you will not.
If a plan or feature is missing
A feature does not appear after subscribing
- Confirm you are signed in to the Snapchat account that made the purchase.
- Update Snapchat through the iOS App Store or Google Play, then fully close and reopen the app.
- Restart your device.
- Check the Snapchat+ feature management page and confirm the feature is included in your plan.
- Check whether the feature or plan is available in your region. For Lens+ features, confirm you have Lens+ Monthly or Platinum.
- If the purchase still is not recognized, contact Snapchat Support.
A plan is missing from the paywall
It may not be offered in your country, may still be rolling out, or may not be available through the web subscription route. The app may need an update, or the paywall may initially show only a smaller selection of plans. If you are considering leaving a Family Plan, remember that the two added members lose Snapchat+ access when you switch to another plan.
