YouTube Music’s lyric-sharing feature turns one to five lines from a song into an image card you can save or share, with a link back to the track. The basic feature rolled out to Android and iOS in June 2025; custom AI-generated backgrounds came later. Whether the option appears for you can depend on the song and your current app availability.
How to share lyrics in YouTube Music

Open a song in the YouTube Music mobile app and go to its Now Playing screen.

Tap the Lyrics tab, then choose Share.

The labels and styling controls may have changed since the feature’s rollout, so follow the current app interface if a control differs. YouTube Music’s official September 2025 roundup says a card contains one to five lyric lines and a link to the song: YouTube Music feature roundup.
Where is the lyric-share button?
Look for Share within the song’s Lyrics tab on the Now Playing screen. The June 2025 rollout coverage described selecting lines there, previewing the card, and saving or sharing it. If you do not see the button, the track may not have lyrics available, or the feature may not be available for your account or location. The sources do not provide a complete list of eligible songs or a current country-by-country availability status.

What does the shared card include?
The card displays the lines you selected and links back to the song. At launch, reporting described ten color choices for the card background; the later AI option can generate custom imagery. The official team describes that enhancement as analyzing the selected lyric phrases to generate background images. That is the product’s description, not a guarantee that every generated image will suit every lyric.
Basic lyric sharing and AI backgrounds are separate features
YouTube Music first widened the basic lyric-sharing feature in June 2025. Its September 22, 2025 official roundup subsequently listed generative-AI lyric-card backgrounds among August launches. The AI treatment is an added background option, not a requirement for making or sharing a lyric card.

Android Central reported in January 2026 that first-time users saw a warning stating that AI-generated images are based on text prompts and may not always follow YouTube’s policies. Treat that as wording reported at the time, rather than confirmation of the exact message currently shown in every app version.

- April 2025: 9to5Google reported that YouTube Music had begun testing the feature.
- June 17–18, 2025: 9to5Google and Android Authority reported a wider Android and iOS rollout in YouTube Music version 8.24. Their reporting said it was available to free and paid users at that time.
- September 22, 2025: YouTube Music’s official roundup described the one-to-five-line share card and noted the later generative-AI background option.
- January 6, 2026: Android Central reported on the AI background experience and its first-use warning.
The June 2025 reports describe that rollout, not a guarantee that every account, region, or song has the control today. They also do not establish current subscription requirements.

What to check if you cannot share a song’s lyrics
- Check the Lyrics tab: If the song has no lyrics displayed, there may be no lines to select for a card.
- Check the current app interface: The workflow and labels can change between app versions.
- Try another track: The available sources do not establish that every song has shareable lyrics.
- Do not assume a rollout guarantee: June 2025 coverage documented broad Android and iOS availability then, but does not confirm present availability for each account or country.
