Reports of behind-the-scenes turmoil on Tulsa King Season 4 center on two issues: 26 crew members were reportedly asked not to return, and a former crew member described an unusual leadership arrangement without a conventional on-set showrunner. Paramount has confirmed the season and scheduled its premiere for October 16, 2026. The reports do not establish that production stopped or that the changes affected the finished episodes.
What was reported about the crew
Deadline reported that 26 people from a crew of about 600 were asked not to return before production resumed. TheWrap’s account of the report said sources characterized the turnover as standard practice and noted that the affected crew members did not have Season 4 contracts. These are reported figures and circumstances, not numbers announced by Paramount.
“Asked not to return” is the more precise description. The reporting does not establish that those crew members were fired from active Season 4 jobs; it says they did not have contracts for the new season. Former stunt coordinator Freddie Poole criticized how the changes were handled, telling Variety, as recounted by CinemaBlend: “The manner in which this was done was just unprofessional and unnecessary.” That is Poole’s assessment, not an official finding or a statement from the studio.
Why the showrunner question drew attention
Paramount’s September 17, 2025 renewal announcement named Terence Winter as executive producer and head writer for Season 4. It described Dave Erickson as Season 3’s showrunner but did not name a conventional Season 4 showrunner.

A separate CinemaBlend account of Variety’s interview with Poole says he recounted a conversation with 101 Studios production executive Scott Stone. According to that account, Stone indicated the production would have no showrunner and that 101 Studios would run the show. It also reported that Winter would work from a Los Angeles writers’ room rather than be on set.
Those details come from secondary reporting of a former crew member’s account, not Paramount’s official description of Season 4 management. Winter’s announced head-writer and executive-producer roles do not, by themselves, establish that he would supervise day-to-day production on set. The distinction helps explain why reports framed the setup as unusual without proving that nobody had responsibility for the production.

What Paramount has confirmed about Season 4
Paramount renewed Tulsa King on September 17, 2025. In a September 28, 2026 announcement promoting the Season 4 trailer, the company said the season would premiere Friday, October 16, 2026. That announcement describes Dwight’s empire as under attack and says Gretchen Mol joins the series as a regular.
Paramount’s official announcements confirm the renewal and planned release; they do not address the crew-change reports or the account of the leadership conversation. The available coverage therefore supports a report of crew turnover and concern about on-set oversight, not a claim that the series was cancelled or production shut down.
