What did the Palace say about the diagnosis?
The Palace said diagnostic tests had identified a form of cancer after a separate issue was noticed during a hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement. The statement did not name the cancer type or stage. Contemporaneous coverage described it as not prostate cancer; the Palace’s account was that it was a separate issue found during treatment for the benign prostate condition. The statement said Charles would postpone public-facing duties while receiving treatment, but would continue state business and official paperwork. As the Palace put it: “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
