Production on the live-action Masters of the Universe had wrapped when Mattel shared a first look at Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man. The film’s announced theatrical release date, June 5, 2026, has passed; Amazon’s current guide says it is now streaming globally on Prime Video.
What Mattel’s filming update revealed
Mattel announced that production had wrapped and pointed fans to the first look at Galitzine as He-Man. In a statement from Instagram reproduced in Mattel’s post, Galitzine said: “It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He Man. It’s been the role of a lifetime and I put everything into it.” Mattel’s post gave the film’s then-announced theatrical date as June 5, 2026.
Who Galitzine plays and what the film is about
Galitzine plays Prince Adam, who becomes He-Man. The story sends Adam back to Eternia after 15 years away, guided by the Sword of Power. He finds his home under Skeletor’s rule and joins Teela and Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms, in an effort to save his family and world. Travis Knight directs the film, according to Mattel’s January 22, 2026 announcement.
Cast and credits
The announced cast includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, James Purefoy as King Randor, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena, Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto, Jared Leto as Skeletor and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms. The screenplay is credited to Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee and Dave Callaham. Amazon’s film guide provides the current character and writing credits.
