The Expecting is a fictional horror series about Emma, a young woman whose pregnancy begins under mysterious circumstances. As she faces nightmares and physical complications, she tries to uncover what happened—and whether a potential conspiracy is involved.
What is The Expecting about?
Dark Castle Entertainment describes the story as “the dark journey of a young woman down on her luck and pregnant under mysterious circumstances.” Contemporary coverage identifies Emma as a waitress whose unearthly pregnancy brings nightmares and bodily changes. Mary Harron directed The Expecting, and Ben Ketai wrote it. AnnaSophia Robb plays Emma; Rory Culkin and Mira Sorvino are also among the principal cast, according to Dread Central’s October 6, 2020 coverage and the Dark Castle cast listing.

Harron connected the story’s body horror to her own perspective as a parent. She said, “Having had two children, I always felt when I was pregnant — and as happy as I was about being pregnant — that it is like your own personal horror movie because of the way your body changes so bizarrely.” She also described Emma as “a young woman who has always been afraid of herself, and has been afraid of becoming her mother.” These are Harron’s creative reflections, not medical claims.
When was it released, and how many episodes are there?
The Expecting originally launched on Quibi in October 2020. Rue Morgue reported on October 5, 2020 that the first three episodes—approximately eight minutes each—were released that day, followed by weekday chapters through October 15.

It lists the original release date as October 5, 2020, and identifies The Roku Channel as the network.
