Chris Brown was arrested in Manchester on 15 May 2025 in connection with a reported assault at Tape London in February 2023. He was initially charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, but on 24 July 2026 he pleaded guilty to affray at Southwark Crown Court. Sentencing was scheduled for 26 October 2026 and was still pending as of 7 October 2026.

Why was Chris Brown arrested in the UK?

Brown’s arrest followed a Metropolitan Police investigation into an incident reported at a London nightclub on 19 February 2023. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) identifies the venue as Tape London, in Hanover Square. Brown was arrested in Manchester on 15 May 2025 in connection with that investigation. The Metropolitan Police reported that he appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court the next day and was remanded in custody; police records say he was granted bail on 21 May 2025. What happened at the London nightclub?

According to the CPS’s account of the prosecution case, Brown struck a man twice over the head with a glass bottle at Tape London in the early hours of 19 February 2023. The CPS said Omololu Akinlolu punched the man in the head and that he was kicked while on the floor. The man attended St Mary’s Hospital with head and knee injuries. CPS, 24 July 2026

The Metropolitan Police said its investigation began after the report that day. Police described CCTV enquiries as showing Brown striking the man’s head several times with a bottle, Akinlolu punching him at the back of the head, and the victim being chased, pushed to the floor and kicked. Police also said the men were known to the victim. These are the prosecution and police accounts of the incident, not details to separate from their attribution. Metropolitan Police, 24 July 2026

What was Chris Brown charged with?

On 15 May 2025, the CPS said it had authorized one count of grievous bodily harm under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The Metropolitan Police described the charge as grievous bodily harm with intent. That was the original charge; it was not the final reported outcome. At the time, the CPS reminded the public that proceedings were active and Brown had the right to a fair trial. CPS, 15 May 2025

Did Chris Brown plead guilty?

Yes. On 24 July 2026, Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to one count of affray at Southwark Crown Court, according to the CPS and Metropolitan Police. The reported plea was to affray, not to the original grievous-bodily-harm-with-intent charge. The CPS reported that Brown was 37 and Akinlolu was 40 at the time of its announcement.

After the pleas, Claire Campbell, Senior Crown Prosecutor in CPS London South, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice.” That is Campbell’s characterization of the prosecution case.
