The series was jointly produced by China’s Ministry of Public Security and China Media Group and began airing on CCTV-1 on October 5, 2026, according to reports. Its account of events and police work should be understood as the documentary’s reported narrative, not as independently verified findings.
What the documentary covers
Bastille Post reports that the series centers on a shooting involving Chinese nationals in Kokang, in northern Myanmar, on October 20, 2023, and the investigation of compounds associated with the incident and telecom fraud. The report names Wohushan Manor, the “Red House” and Donghu Manor as sites entered by Chinese investigators. It says Chinese and Myanmar police formed a joint investigation team through a bilateral law-enforcement and security cooperation mechanism. Bastille Post’s report describes the investigation; the documentary and its underlying case materials have not been independently reviewed here.

How investigators reportedly handled evidence
According to Bastille Post, the investigators were tasked with preserving evidence for homicide cases as well as gambling and telecommunications fraud. At a site where shooting victims were believed to have been buried, the team reportedly found three badly decomposed bodies. The report says Myanmar authorities initially declined to return them, Chinese officers collected biological samples for forensic work, and the bodies were returned to China the next day after negotiations. Chinese forensic examinations reportedly found gunshot wounds. These details are accounts attributed to the report, not independently confirmed findings.
Police accounts of the risks
Bastille Post attributes accounts of the operation to two Chinese police officials. Na Xin, identified as a senior police inspector with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kunming Public Security Bureau, described intense fighting and said Myanmar military aircraft flew overhead and dropped bombs. The report quotes him saying officers’ priority was to prevent evidence from being destroyed by the fighting.

Yang Guoqiang, identified as deputy head of the Criminal Investigation Division under the Wenzhou Public Security Bureau, said the team sought evidence in homicide, gambling and telecom-fraud cases while working across a large area with landmines and unexploded ordnance. He characterized the mission as one the officers had to undertake. These are quotations as printed in Bastille Post; their wording and the officials’ roles have not been checked against the broadcast or a transcript. The report’s account and quotations are available here.
Broadcast details and title
SCMP reported that the three-part series began airing on CCTV-1 on Monday, October 5, 2026, with subsequent installments scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Bastille Post gives the English title as The Demise of Telecom Fraud in Northern Myanmar; English renderings differ across coverage, so that wording should not be treated as an established official English title. Neither report offers direct access to the original broadcast or transcript. SCMP’s October 6 report provides its account of the series and its schedule.

What the reports say about the wider campaign
Bastille Post says Chinese authorities launched a special campaign in July 2023 against cross-border telecommunications and online fraud targeting China in northern Myanmar. It also reports that 11 gang members were executed on January 29, 2026, after a Wenzhou court sentenced them in September 2025 on charges including intentional homicide, intentional injury, illegal detention, fraud and operating gambling establishments. These are reported Chinese enforcement and court outcomes, not independently checked here.
SCMP says the documentary described Chinese authorities making three attempts to persuade powerful families in northern Myanmar to close scam operations before large-scale arrests in 2023. The report also says Chinese authorities announced that major scam groups in northern Myanmar had been dismantled in November 2024. Both claims should remain attributed to the documentary, authorities or SCMP. SCMP’s report discusses these claims.

Taken together, the reports portray the documentary as a Chinese law-enforcement account of evidence collection in a conflict-affected area, the Kokang shooting, and an anti-fraud campaign. They do not establish that every claim in the series has been independently verified, and they do not provide a separate account from Myanmar authorities or the people and groups implicated.
