Tirola also described New Wave as combining punk’s anger with a desire for inclusion: “It felt as if someone had gone to every cafeteria table and found the person there who didn’t feel comfortable. And from that, a new cafeteria table emerged – one where everybody was invited.” These are the director’s reflections on the story the series tells, not a substitute for the movement’s many different histories.
