Five documentaries will tour Montenegro from October 5 to 30, 2026, in the third Documentary Film Review, organized by the Montenegrin Cinema Network with UnderhillFest. The tour is scheduled to open in Herceg Novi and close in Berane. The films move from a young Afghan artist’s self-recorded story to a family archive, a trans-American road trip, a Montenegrin song’s tangled history, and a monument’s changing meaning.
Five films, five documentary approaches
The lineup connects personal experience with questions of identity, memory, place, and reputation. Fox Under the Pink Moon
Directed by Mehrdad Oskouei and Soraya Akhlaghi, the film follows Soraya, a sixteen-year-old Afghan artist trying to leave Iran and reach her mother in Austria. According to Vijesti, Soraya filmed herself on a mobile phone over five years and used drawings and sculptures to preserve and rebuild her identity. The article reports that the film won best film in IDFA’s international competition.
Lessons from My Dad
Croatian director Dahlia Dozet discovers a large collection of videotapes her father recorded before his death, many without labels. The film turns this family archive into a way of approaching someone she can no longer ask about directly: she tries to know him through images left behind. Vijesti reports that the film received the ZagrebDox Grand Seal and an editing award at the Liburnia Film Festival, and was included in the Sarajevo Film Festival’s documentary competition.

Yugo Goes to America
Filip Grujić and Alex Borković follow millennials driving an old Yugo from New York to Los Angeles. Their encounters include Yugo enthusiasts, emigrants, and people connected to the car’s history in the United States. Vijesti reports that the journey covered more than 10,000 kilometers across 23 U.S. states; those figures are reported by the article, not independently verified here. The film premiered at CPH:DOX and received a Beldocs audience award, according to the same source. Along the way, it asks who gets to call something “the worst.”
Milica, to Your Mother
Seada Šabotić’s film, based on an idea and project by journalist Oliver Vukadinović, searches for the identity of Milica, associated with a famous Podgorica sevdalinka. Its trail leads from Stara varoš to Sarajevo through memories, legends, and accounts that do not necessarily agree. Rather than treating a song as a settled historical record, the film follows the stories and identities gathered around it.

Monument to the Revolution
This film looks at a devastated monument and its passage through transition, decay, and destruction. The monument becomes a way to examine what happens to heritage and public space, and how collective memory changes when a public symbol is neglected or lost.
