The record supports a picture of restrained, practical taste—but not a definitive ranking of his favourites: the reporting identifies watches he wore or owned, and no direct statement from Bourdain naming a favourite has been established.
Which watches were associated with Anthony Bourdain?
Rolex appears most often in accounts of Bourdain’s watches, but the model descriptions are not always consistent. British GQ’s 2026 feature says he was seen wearing up to a dozen watches over his career; that is the publication’s reported count, not a complete, independently documented inventory.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual
A 2020 British GQ article says Bourdain could often be seen wearing his father’s no-date Oyster Perpetual from the 1960s. British GQ’s 2026 list also names a silver-dial Oyster Perpetual. The blue-dial Rolex
Coverage also identifies a frequently worn blue-dial Rolex, but disagrees on its name. Time+Tide calls it an Oyster Perpetual Date with an engine-turned bezel; British GQ calls a blue-dial watch a Datejust. Blackened Rolex Milgauss
Time+Tide and British GQ both list a custom blacked-out Milgauss. British GQ notes that the model was designed to withstand powerful magnetic fields; the customization gave this Rolex a more distinctive look than the restrained watches that dominate the accounts. Time+Tide Watches; British GQ.
Panerai Radiomir
The Panerai Radiomir is another recurring identification: reports describe a black-dial, time-only watch with a simple appearance. Other reported pieces
British GQ’s 2026 account also names a TAG Heuer Monaco, TAG Heuer Link WT5210, Ernst Benz Chronoflite World Timer, gold Patek Philippe Calatrava, antique gold Rolex and Movado Museum. Older accounts likewise mention a Calatrava and a vintage gold Rolex. These are reported selections, not proof of a complete collection. British GQ; British GQ, 2020; Time+Tide Watches.
What made the collection seem non-fussy?
The common thread in the reporting is not one signature model but a tilt toward everyday wear: relatively simple dials and functions, with a few more formal or visually unusual exceptions. British GQ’s writer described most of the watches as “simple, go-anywhere watches with nothing much in the way of fancy complications.” That is the writer’s characterization, not a quotation from Bourdain.

Time+Tide’s D.C. Hannay also portrayed Bourdain as unprecious about his watches, writing that they were subjected to the wear associated with travel and professional kitchens. That observation belongs to the writer, too. It is reasonable to read the practical selection as fitting Bourdain’s public image as a working chef and traveler, but the available accounts do not establish that he explained his choices that way.
Was there a definitive favourite?
No. The sources do not document a direct Bourdain statement ranking his watches or naming one as his single favourite. “Favourite watches” is therefore best understood as shorthand for notable or recurring watches associated with him in reporting—not a verified personal ranking.

What happened to some of the watches?
Bob’s Watches reported in 2019 that eight timepieces from Bourdain’s collection were offered through iGavel Auctions, including a TAG Heuer Monaco, Ball Standard Fireman Storm Chaser and Filson Smokey the Bear watch. The preview said the auction supported a Culinary Institute of America scholarship. Its eight lots describe that auction offering, not every watch Bourdain ever wore; the figure is distinct from British GQ’s later report that he was seen in up to a dozen watches over his career.
