ABC has not confirmed that explanation in the sources available here. The 13th episode, “Let’s Play,” is officially designated the season finale—not a sign that episodes are missing.
Season 1 has 13 episodes, and episode 13 is the finale
ABC’s official episode guide lists 13 installments, from “Pilot” on September 17, 2024, to “Let’s Play” on February 11, 2025. ABC labels “Let’s Play” “Season 1, Episode 13” and “Season Finale.”
The season did have a broadcast gap: episode 7 aired November 12, 2024, and episode 8 followed on January 7, 2025. But the guide continues through episode 13 and identifies it as the finale; the gap does not mean the season was left unfinished.
What reporting says about the 13-episode order
Coverage of the show’s renewal attributed the shorter first-season order to an atypical production schedule and Olson’s commitment to FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. That is a reported explanation, not a direct statement from ABC: the available reporting does not establish an official network rationale. Renewal reporting

Did the 2023 strikes cause the shorter season?
Not on the evidence available. TVLine reported that ABC held High Potential for fall 2024 during the period affected by the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes. That supports the conclusion that the strikes-era schedule affected the show’s premiere timing; it does not show that the strikes caused ABC to order 13 episodes. TVLine’s report on the delay
How Season 1 compares with Season 2
In May 2025, TVLine reported an 18-episode order for Season 2, four more episodes than Season 1. This is a reported order for that season, not a guarantee that every future season will have the same length. TVLine’s Season 2 report
