At Danny Masterson’s 2023 Los Angeles retrial, three women testified about alleged sexual assaults. The jury convicted him on the counts involving Jen B. and N. Trout, but could not reach a verdict on Chrissie B.’s count. The accounts below are testimony reported by the Los Angeles Times; the verdicts apply to the charged counts, not every incident described.
What each woman testified to
Jen B.
Jen B. testified that she became weak and woozy after having a drink at Masterson’s home. She said he raped her there, wielding a gun and suffocating her with a pillow. The jury found Masterson guilty on the count involving her. The Los Angeles Times detailed her testimony in its May 31, 2023, retrial coverage.
N. Trout
N. Trout testified that she felt weak after a drink and was isolated at Masterson’s home. She said he groped and digitally penetrated her in a shower, then raped her so violently that she vomited. The jury found Masterson guilty on the count involving her. Her account was also covered in the Los Angeles Times May 31, 2023, report.
Chrissie B.
Chrissie B., who had been in a relationship with Masterson, testified that in November 2001 she woke to him forcing himself on her. She said he pinned her down and raped her after she told him no. The jury did not reach a verdict on the count involving this alleged assault.

She also described a separate incident after a restaurant drink: she said she lost consciousness and woke at Masterson’s home the next morning. That incident was not the basis of a charged count in the case. The Los Angeles Times covered her testimony in its May 31, 2023, trial report.
What the testimony established—and what it did not
All three women described feeling disoriented, weak or nauseated after drinks. Their testimony that they felt those effects is distinct from proof that anyone drugged them. The defense argued that there was no forensic evidence establishing drugging and challenged the accounts and their corroboration. Those were defense arguments; they were not findings that the women’s testimony was false. Masterson did not testify at either trial.

Why the women said they delayed reporting
The women testified that fear of consequences within the Church of Scientology contributed to their delayed reports. They described concern that reporting could lead to being labeled “suppressive” and losing contact with family or friends.
These accounts should be distinguished from the church’s position. The Church of Scientology denied discouraging members from reporting alleged crimes to law enforcement. In a preliminary proceeding, Judge Charlaine Olmedo ruled that the church had a written doctrine discouraging members from reporting one another to law enforcement; the church disputed that interpretation of its policies. The Los Angeles Times reported on the mistrial and the church’s response on Nov. 30, 2022, and covered the retrial verdict on May 31, 2023.

How the verdict and sentence fit the testimony
The first trial, in 2022, ended in a mistrial after jurors could not agree on any of the three counts. At the 2023 retrial, jurors convicted Masterson on the counts involving Jen B. and N. Trout and deadlocked on Chrissie B.’s count. A deadlock is not a verdict of guilt or innocence on that count.
In September 2023, Judge Olmedo sentenced Masterson to consecutive terms of 15 years to life for each conviction, for a total of 30 years to life. Masterson maintained his innocence. The Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press reported on the sentencing on Sept. 7, 2023.
