How Strands works

Published guides describe Strands as a word-search-style puzzle played on a six-by-eight letter grid. Players trace words horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to find theme answers and a spangram, which describes the theme and connects two opposite sides of the board. According to those guides’ account of the NYT rules, finding three valid non-theme words of at least four letters earns a hint that highlights the letters of a theme word.
