She later described the house not only as a hard-won home of her own, but as a gathering place for family and friends. In March 2025, she said she and her teenage daughter were doing okay, while calling the experience devastating and unsettling.
How Saint John learned her home was gone
Saint John confirmed on Instagram on January 9, 2025, that her home had burned in the Los Angeles-area wildfires. On the January 21 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she explained how she found out: “I was in Zambia, and saw my house on Twitter, and that’s how I found out.” She said she could not retrieve her belongings before returning. Bravo’s account of her comments was published January 22, 2025.
Why she called it a wider family home
Saint John told Bravo that she had bought the house about four years earlier and had worked for 25 years to obtain it: “I worked 25 years to get it.” The home was also arranged for other people to use. As she explained, it had a keypad entry so family and friends could come and go.
In a March 21, 2025 interview with Vogue, she put that idea plainly: “I would call it more like my family home—my wider family home—because I had a keypad on the door so everybody could come in.” She said her sister and fiancé had stayed there shortly before the fires, and that other relatives and friends had used it too. What she said about the loss and her daughter
In her January 9 Instagram statement, quoted by the Los Angeles Times, Saint John wrote: “This is the house I wanted. The house I prayed for. The house I worked in blood, sweat and tears for.” The paper also quoted her describing what the home meant to her as a widowed Black woman and mother, and saying she was grieving alongside Los Angeles. Her account reflects her own experience; it should not be taken as representative of every person affected by the fires. The Los Angeles Times reported on her statement.
In the March 2025 Vogue interview, Saint John said she and her teenage daughter were doing okay. She also called the experience devastating and unsettling. Those comments describe how they were doing then, not a current update.

What later rebuilding figures do—and do not—show
An Associated Press report published January 7, 2026, said fewer than a dozen homes had been rebuilt in Los Angeles County one year after the Palisades and Eaton fires, while about 900 were under construction. AP also reported that insurance payments often did not cover rebuilding costs and that some households struggled to finance reconstruction. These are countywide recovery figures, not information about Saint John’s property or neighborhood. They do not establish whether she rebuilt, relocated, or received insurance payments.
