Louis Vuitton made four trunks for the Paris 2024 Games: two to protect and display medals designed by Chaumet, and two to secure and present the Olympic and Paralympic torches. The medal trays seen at victory ceremonies were a third, separate object: volunteers carried them to bring medals to the podium.
Three objects, three jobs
The trunks and trays can look like parts of one presentation, but they served different purposes. Louis Vuitton made both types of trunk and the ceremony trays; Chaumet designed the medals themselves.

How the medal trunks were built
Louis Vuitton’s medal trunks had Monogram canvas exteriors, brass corners and closures, and a design inspired by the house’s Malle Coiffeuse. Each trunk had a central section and two hinged wings that opened to reveal drawers designed to hold 468 medals. Black matt leather lined the interior and covered the drawer handles; subtle Paris 2024 marks were embossed and screen-printed inside.
The stated capacity applies to the drawers in the trunks described by LVMH. The announcement does not say how many medals the trunks actually carried, or establish that they held all the medals awarded at the Games. [LVMH, March 27, 2024]

How the torch trunks differed
The torch trunks used Damier canvas rather than Monogram. LVMH says the Damier design dates to 1888. Inside, soft black matt leather lined the case, while circular sockets in the base and hinged lid held a torch in place.
The trunks could also be opened into presentation cases: the doors unfolded and the socket in the lid reversed, revealing an embossed Paris 2024 logo. Brass corners and closures carried through the traditional trunk details. Louis Vuitton’s Paris 2024 feature likewise describes Monogram exteriors for the medal trunks and Damier exteriors for the torch trunks. [Louis Vuitton, Paris 2024 feature]

The trays volunteers carried at medal ceremonies
The flat trays were not the trunks that transported the medals. Le Monde reported that Louis Vuitton supplied 515 medal-presentation volunteers with neutral, logo-free uniforms and a tray in the brand’s colors. The Beaulieu-sur-Layon workshop in Maine-et-Loire designed the trays in beige-and-brown Damier-pattern coated canvas.
Antoine Arnault, LVMH’s Image and Environment director, described the tray as « Il est très Vuitton »—“It is very Vuitton.” Le Monde reported planned counts of 322 Olympic and 549 Paralympic medal ceremonies. Those were contemporary 2024 ceremony figures, not audited final totals. Arnault’s remark that “Hundreds of millions of pairs of eyes will be watching” was a forward-looking publicity statement, not a measured audience result. [Le Monde, July 2, 2024]

Where the trunks appeared in the Games
LVMH said the cases would feature at torch relays and Champions Park. Its Opening Ceremony account later described the medal trunks safeguarding and showcasing Chaumet-designed medals, and a torch trunk housing the Olympic Torch on its journey from across France to Paris. The account also presented a staged sequence in which a medal trunk moved through Louis Vuitton workshop imagery toward the Trocadéro. [LVMH, July 27, 2024]
The same March announcement noted that the Olympic torch arrived from Olympia in Marseille on May 8, 2024, and the Paralympic torch came from Stoke Mandeville in the UK in August. It said the torches, designed by Mathieu Lehanneur, passed through the hands of more than 11,000 torchbearers. These are relay details, not specifications of the Louis Vuitton trunks.
