Born Olive Kathryn Grandstaff on November 25, 1933, in West Columbia, Texas, she graduated from the University of Texas with a fine arts degree, according to the Associated Press. The Bing Crosby estate biography identifies the school as the University of Texas at Austin. She began her film career in 1953 and used the professional name Kathryn Grant.

The estate’s September 23, 2024 notice said she appeared in more than twenty films. Her screen credits included Operation Mad Ball, Tight Spot, The Phenix City Story, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and Anatomy of a Murder. In film records and references to those roles, she is often listed as Kathryn Grant.

Crosby National golf tournament
She hosted the Crosby National golf tournament for 16 years, ending in 2001, according to the Associated Press. The role kept her associated with an event that carried her husband’s name while adding a distinct chapter to her own public career.

Crosby died at her home in Hillsborough, California. The Associated Press reported, citing a family spokesperson, that she died of natural causes on Friday night. The estate notice described her as having died peacefully at home surrounded by family. The AP identified her children Harry, Mary and Nathaniel as survivors; the estate notice also mentioned grandchildren but did not give a number.
