The Warhammer 40,000 adaptation involving Henry Cavill remains in development, but Cavill’s “wonderful” comment was not a new production announcement. Games Workshop’s latest results say Amazon’s long-term project is continuing under contract: initial outlines are complete, and the writer is expected to move on to a script. The company gave no release date or window.
What is the latest update on the Warhammer 40,000 adaptation?
In its results for the 52 weeks ended 31 May 2026, Games Workshop said its agreement with Amazon covers Warhammer 40,000 films and television, along with associated merchandising rights. The company described it as a long-term partnership that will take years to bring successfully to market. It said the project continues under contract, but announced no release date or release window. Games Workshop’s results

The report says Amazon brought United Artists aboard, and that Henry Cavill and Vertigo remain involved. It also says initial outlines are complete and the writer is expected to move on to a script. Those are development updates, not confirmation that filming has begun or that a finished series or film is imminent.
What did Cavill mean by “wonderful”?
The word comes from Cavill’s May 2025 Esquire interview, as quoted by Marie Claire. He was describing the creative challenge of adapting Warhammer 40,000’s complexity, not announcing a new milestone. “It’s wonderful doing that,” he said. He explained that he enjoys the challenge of doing justice to the setting’s complexity, trickiness and nuance. Marie Claire’s account of the interview

In the longer quotation reported by Marie Claire, Cavill called the property “a tricky IP, and a very complex IP,” adding that putting it on the page in a way that does justice to its complexity and nuance is a challenge he is enjoying.
What has not been announced?
- Release timing: Games Workshop gave no date or window, and said the adaptations will take years to reach the market.
- Cavill’s exact role: The report confirms his continued involvement but does not specify whether he will appear on screen or identify a character.
- Story and cast: No adaptation-specific plot or cast list is confirmed in the cited update.
- Adaptation merchandise: The agreement includes associated merchandising rights, but no adaptation-specific products or release dates were identified. Warhammer 40,000 miniatures are an existing tabletop product, not merchandise confirmed for the Amazon adaptation.
Why the wording matters
There are two distinct updates: Cavill’s 2025 praise for the creative work and Games Workshop’s 2026 account of the project’s development status. The “wonderful” remark reflects the former; the completed outlines and expected move to scripting reflect the latter. Neither provides a launch date.
