Its Rotten Tomatoes scores were low in a snapshot accessed on 4 October 2026, but those ratings do not show whether the series is popular or commercially successful. The sources available establish its release and review reception—not its viewership or performance on Prime Video.
What is Malice about?
Created by James Wood, Malice follows Adam Healey, a tutor played by Jack Whitehall, who ingratiates himself with the wealthy Tanner family during a holiday in Greece. After the family’s nanny becomes dangerously ill, Adam engineers a move into their London home and starts turning Jamie Tanner, played by David Duchovny, against his wife Nat, played by Carice van Houten. Amazon describes the series as a thriller built around Adam’s intrusion into the family’s life. Amazon’s series announcement
The six episodes were released globally on Prime Video on 14 November 2025. TheWrap reported that the series was produced by Expectation and Tailspin Films, directed by Mike Barker and Leonora Lonsdale, and filmed in London and Greece; production wrapped in late July 2024. Is Malice a whodunnit?
Not in the conventional sense. Duchovny told The Guardian that viewers know who is responsible early on, so the central question is more about motive than identifying the culprit. That shifts the suspense test: the series asks why Adam is targeting the family and what he will do next, rather than building toward a late reveal of his identity. What do the reviews say?
In a Rotten Tomatoes snapshot accessed on 4 October 2026, Malice had a 44% Tomatometer from 25 critic reviews and a 39% Popcornmeter from more than 100 audience ratings. These are separate, platform-specific aggregates, not measurements of the same group or a universal verdict. Both scores and counts can change as ratings are added. Rotten Tomatoes: Malice
Criticism of suspense and momentum
One concrete complaint concerns suspense. Scott Bryan of BBC.com wrote in a review dated 11 March 2026 that there was “absolutely no sense of suspense” and that he never felt “on the edge of [his] seat.” That is one critic’s assessment, not a summary of every review. Some praise for performances and imagery
Reception was not uniformly negative. James Croot of The Post NZ, writing on 1 April 2026, described the show as “a sun-soaked combination of Ripley and The White Lotus” and praised its performances and imagery while faulting its lack of subtlety. By contrast, a Rotten Tomatoes-hosted excerpt from James Delingpole of The Spectator, dated 2 January 2026, was much less enthusiastic. These examples illustrate different responses; neither should be treated as representative of all critics. Rotten Tomatoes: Season 1 reviews and excerpts
Does Malice thrive on Prime Video?
That claim is not established by the available figures. A continuing Prime Video listing and the existence of critic or audience ratings do not demonstrate popularity, viewing hours, chart performance, or commercial success. The sources cited here provide no viewership total, streaming-hours figure, platform ranking, or renewal status, so there is no basis to say that Malice is thriving commercially.

If you want a thriller focused on a manipulator’s motives and the damage he causes inside a wealthy family, Malice offers that premise across six episodes. If your main requirement is sustained suspense, Bryan’s criticism points to a notable risk. The published reactions also include praise for the cast and imagery, so the aggregates are best read as a warning of divided or unfavorable reception—not as a substitute for your own preferences.
