The Amazing Kreskin, the American mentalist known for live performances, talk-show appearances and his television series The Amazing World of Kreskin, died on December 10, 2024, at age 89. Reports differ about where he died and whether a cause was given: the Associated Press reported that he died at home in Caldwell, New Jersey, while The Washington Post reported that he died at an assisted-living center in Wayne, New Jersey.
Who was The Amazing Kreskin?
Kreskin was born George Joseph Kresge Jr. on January 12, 1935. He built a career as a mentalist, appearing on television talk shows and hosting The Amazing World of Kreskin, a series that the Television Academy says ran for three years. The Associated Press reported that his television career began in the 1960s and that he continued performing live into his 80s.
What was Kreskin’s act?
Kreskin described his performances in terms of suggestion and perception, rather than supernatural powers. In a 2023 interview with The Washington Post, he said: “I’m not a hypnotist, but I know the power of suggestion. I’m not a psychic. I’m not a medium. I can’t tell the past or the future. But I can, most of the time, perceive in some way what people are thinking in the moment.”
The Associated Press also reported that Kreskin later acknowledged his much-publicized 2002 Las Vegas UFO prediction was a hoax intended to show how people could be manipulated—not a genuine prediction.
