AMC Theatres Distribution announced on October 6, 2025, that the event finished No. 1 at both the domestic and global box office. How many copies did The Life of a Showgirl sell?

The headline figures depend on what is being counted. Universal Music reported that the album generated more than 4 million U.S. and 5.5 million global album-equivalent units in its first week in October 2025. Album-equivalent units measure consumption rather than physical copies alone. The label separately reported more than 1 million vinyl units sold in the first week, calling it the largest vinyl sales week in Nielsen history at that time. IFPI later named The Life of a Showgirl its biggest-selling global album of 2025. In IFPI’s Global Album Sales Chart, the album ranked No. 1 with 6.05 million units for 2025. That chart counts physical album sales and full album downloads; it is distinct from IFPI’s broader Global Album Chart, which combines physical sales, downloads and streaming under its methodology. What changed in October 2026?

On the album’s first anniversary, the expanded The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore edition coincided with the original album returning to No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart for a fifth non-consecutive week.
