The families of Greg Biffle, Cristina Grossu Biffle, their children Emma and Ryder, and the other victims issued a joint statement on December 18, 2025—the day a plane crashed at Statesville Regional Airport. They said they were “heartbroken beyond words,” paid tribute to those who died and asked for privacy as they grieved.
What the families said
WBTV published the joint statement on December 18, 2025, on behalf of the Biffle, Grossu, Dutton and Lunders families. It was a collective statement; the report did not identify an individual speaker.
“This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words,” the families wrote. They asked for “privacy, compassion and understanding as we grieve and begin to process this unimaginable loss.” The statement ended: “At this moment, our focus is on honoring their lives and supporting one another.”
The families described Greg and Cristina as devoted parents and active philanthropists, praised Emma and Ryder, said Dennis and Jack Dutton were deeply loved, and remembered Craig Wadsworth as beloved in the NASCAR community. WBTV’s report reproducing the statement provides the full context.

What is known about the investigation
The families’ statement expressed grief; it did not give an account of why the plane crashed. The National Transportation Safety Board identifies the accident as WPR26MA063 and lists its investigation as ongoing. The agency says its final report will address probable cause and contributing factors. The NTSB investigation page is the official source for the case status.
The NTSB released a preliminary report on January 30, 2026. In its report on those preliminary findings, the Associated Press said Biffle was not flying the plane and described instrument problems and the qualifications of the person in the right seat. Preliminary findings are not a final probable-cause determination; neither the NTSB’s ongoing status nor the AP report establishes a final cause. Read the AP’s report on the preliminary findings.
