Deewar Me Ek Khidki is a Hindi novel by Vinod Kumar Shukla, recorded by the Sahitya Akademi as its 1999 Hindi award-winning novel. Readers can find the Hindi original under several transliterations, while the English translation was published as A Window Lived in a Wall.
What is Deewar Me Ek Khidki?
It is a Hindi novel by Vinod Kumar Shukla. Catalogs and listings render its title in different ways, including Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi, Deewar Main Ek Khirkee Rahathi Thi, and Deewar me ek Khidki Rehti thi. When searching for a copy, include the author’s name and check the title printed on the edition you intend to read.
Why is the novel notable?
The Sahitya Akademi’s official award list records Vinod Kumar Shukla’s novel, under the transliteration Deewar Main Ek Khirkee Rahathi Thi, as the 1999 award-winning Hindi novel. Bennett University also includes excerpts in a contemporary Hindi novel curriculum, in a unit focused on reading, interpretation, and meaning-making. That curricular context establishes its place in literature study, but it does not by itself prescribe a particular interpretation.
Is there an English translation?
Yes. Sahitya Akademi lists the English translation as A Window Lived in a Wall, translated from Hindi by Satti Khanna. Its catalog records a first edition in 2007, with 231 pages plus front matter, and ISBN 81-260-2172-1. The translation is a separate edition from the Hindi original; use its English title and ISBN when looking for that version.
