Yes. Lionsgate announced John Wick: Chapter 5 at CinemaCon in April 2025. Keanu Reeves is attached to star and produce, and Chad Stahelski is slated to direct. That confirms the film is an announced project; it does not confirm that filming has begun or that a release date has been set.
What Lionsgate has confirmed
The announcement came at CinemaCon in April 2025. Lionsgate named Reeves as a star and producer, Stahelski as director, and Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee as producers. Lionsgate’s 2025 investor presentation also lists John Wick 5 among its announced franchise projects. The language around the announcement signals that the team wants the next chapter to justify its return. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said, “Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world.” Iwanyk and Lee said, “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s story the proper next step.” ABC News Variety
What is not confirmed
The announcement is not a production schedule. The available official materials and announcement coverage do not establish a release date or a filming start as of October 4, 2026. Avoid treating rumored 2026 or 2027 dates as confirmed.
#1 Best Overall
Variety reported on April 2, 2025 that no plot details, further cast members, or production timeline had been revealed at that point. That is a snapshot of what was known then, not proof that no later update has appeared. Lionsgate’s inspected investor-news index includes corporate releases from 2026 but does not provide a Chapter 5 schedule; an index check cannot rule out an update elsewhere. Lionsgate’s 2025 investor presentation also lists an animated prequel and an AAA video game in development, and says the John Wick Experience in Las Vegas was open in February 2025. These are separate franchise projects and do not show that the fifth film has entered production. Lionsgate investor presentation filed with the SEC
