Jaida Essence Hall did not simply leave We’re Here or get replaced by Latrice Royale for the whole of Season 4. HBO announced both queens among the season’s four hosts; Jaida is part of the Tennessee story, while Latrice joins the Oklahoma portion. The apparent swap was a location-based handoff as the season moved between communities.
Who hosted We’re Here Season 4?
HBO’s February 8, 2024 announcement named Sasha Velour, Priyanka, Jaida Essence Hall, and Latrice Royale as the Season 4 hosts. The six-episode season premiered April 26, 2024. HBO’s announcement
Did Jaida Essence Hall leave, or was Latrice Royale her replacement?
The available season summaries and contemporaneous reporting do not support describing Latrice as Jaida’s across-the-season replacement. HBO’s episode synopses place Sasha, Priyanka, and Jaida in the opening Tennessee story; when the show moves to Oklahoma, the queens call on Latrice. TheWrap characterized the change of state as Jaida and Latrice “tag[ging] out” halfway through. In other words, the lineup’s division followed the season’s locations.
HBO’s Season 4 synopses and TheWrap’s April 26, 2024 report describe the Tennessee-to-Oklahoma transition. Neither establishes that Jaida was fired or personally removed, and the sources do not disclose a private scheduling reason.

Why did the season’s format change?
Season 4 spent longer in fewer places and let stories unfold across multiple episodes, rather than moving to a new town for each episode. The Television Academy described the approach as more documentary-driven, with stories developing in one community over three episode installments.
More time with the communities
Showrunner and director Peter LoGreco said the earlier, shorter visits focused heavily on the drag participants and putting on a live show, leaving less room to explore the places they lived. “It prevented us from exploring the community in which their drag kids were living,” he told the Television Academy. He said the longer arc also gave the show room to engage more directly with local environments and political rhetoric.

Longer stays and a broader range of stories
TheWrap reported the cast and crew spent four weeks in each community, compared with one week under the prior approach. Creator Johnnie Ingram said the team wanted more points of view and stories from the queens and drag kids. Jaida described the revised format this way: “The longer format just feels better. How did the longer format affect the stories?
With more time in a community, the season could follow relationships and local circumstances across episodes rather than treating each visit mainly as preparation for a performance. LoGreco praised the depth and sensitivity the queens brought to the longer arc, saying it allowed material to develop meaningfully for both the drag kids and the queens. What did production say about safety?
LoGreco told the Television Academy that Warner Bros. Discovery conducted safety reviews and security assessments for appearances when queens were in drag. He also described check-ins and conversations intended to make sure queens understood when a planned appearance could carry risk. This is the production’s stated approach; it does not establish that every appearance carried the same level of risk.
