What is the movie called?
SEGA’s July 30, 2024 announcement identifies the film as 劇場版プロジェクトセカイ 壊れたセカイと歌えないミク; its English title is COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing. It is the first anime movie based on the mobile game Project SEKAI: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku, not a claim that it is the first film ever to feature Hatsune Miku. SEGA described the game as having 39 million downloads worldwide in that 2024 announcement; that figure refers to the game, not the movie. SEGA’s announcement
When was the full trailer released?
The full trailer became public on September 27, 2024. SEGA announced its release on September 30, three days later. The preview introduces a movie-original Miku described as coming from the SEKAI of the closed window. She wants help learning to sing because her voice is not reaching the people she wants to reach. The trailer includes her line, “教えて欲しい。歌を” (“Please teach me. About singing.”), and shows Ichika Hoshino and other familiar characters choosing to help her. SEGA’s trailer announcement
What is the story about?
The film’s story is original to the movie rather than a straightforward adaptation of a game storyline. In SEGA’s synopsis, Ichika first hears an unfamiliar Miku’s song in a CD shop, then sees the same Miku on her phone. She discovers that this Miku’s songs are not reaching their intended listeners. The new Miku wants to understand Ichika, whose singing connects with people through live performances. Her plea—“キミのことを、教えて。そうすれば、歌がわかるのかもしれない” (“Tell me about you. Maybe then I can understand singing.”)—sets up the story’s central question: how can music reach someone who needs to hear it? SEGA’s synopsis
