No confirmed announcement says Alex O’Loughlin will star in NCIS: Sydney. The idea traces to a November 2023 comment from creator and showrunner Morgan O’Neill, who said an appearance had not been ruled out. That left the possibility open; it did not confirm that O’Loughlin had been approached, cast, or scheduled to appear.
What did the NCIS: Sydney creator say about Alex O’Loughlin?
In a TVLine interview published November 12, 2023, interviewer Matt Webb Mitovich asked Morgan O’Neill why O’Loughlin had not joined the cast. O’Neill replied, “Look, we haven’t written off the possibility of him popping up.” He also called O’Loughlin “a fantastic actor and a good guy.”

Neither official Season 4 announcement names O’Loughlin among the cast. That means these sources do not confirm his involvement; it does not establish that he could never appear. Paramount Australia & New Zealand’s production announcement and Paramount+’s Season 4 overview provide the current production information.
What is Alex O’Loughlin doing now?
The reliable sources available here do not establish O’Loughlin’s current projects or personal activities. They do not provide a current-project announcement or a recent statement from him about his work. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe him as retired or to attach him to a new production based on these sources alone.

The Hawaiʻi Film Office lists O’Loughlin in the cast of Hawaii Five-0, describes the series as ten seasons, and identifies it as filmed on Oʻahu. That confirms his connection to the series, but does not answer what he is doing now. See the Hawaiʻi Film Office’s productions listing.
