Which fedora sold for $630,000?
The sale was Propstore Lot 173: a fedora made for the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Propstore described it as screen-and-photo-matched to the movie and associated it with Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones and stunt performer Dean Ferrandini. The hat came from Ferrandini’s collection.
Propstore’s Lot 173 listing says the fedora matches film shots, production stills and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set filmed in Sri Lanka, the mine-cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and the river sequence filmed in the United States. That documentation is why the item was described as matched to specific screen material, rather than merely as a hat made for production.
What does the $630,000 price include?
Propstore’s August 2024 auction results report the $630,000 sale figure inclusive of the buyer’s premium. The Value separately reports a $504,000 hammer price, the amount bid before that premium was added. So $630,000 is the premium-inclusive sale price—not the hammer price.

Was it the same hat worn in the movie?

It does not mean every fedora resembling Indiana Jones’s hat is the same prop.

CBS News reported that this lot was made by Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London from sable-colored rabbit felt, with a dark-brown ribbon and leather sweatband. The sweatband bore gold “I J” initials. These construction details identify the reported Lot 173 item; they are not a checklist that proves another hat’s authenticity.
Is this the same Temple of Doom fedora sold in 2021?
No. CBS News reported that a different Temple of Doom fedora sold in 2021 for just over $431,000, including buyer’s premium. That was a separate hat, not Propstore Lot 173. The reported prices are useful as a historical distinction, but they are not a like-for-like appraisal or enough evidence to establish a broader market trend.
