She told the magazine she was not in the mood to date and thought doing so might make her miss him more. The interview records what she said then; it does not establish her dating status today.
What Amy Yasbeck said about dating
In an interview published October 19, 2022, PEOPLE asked Yasbeck about life after Ritter’s death. Her brief answer was: “I don’t date.” She explained that she was not in the mood and believed dating might make her miss John more.
That is a personal account of how she felt at the time, not a general prescription for grieving and not a statement about her circumstances in 2026. The interview is the source for the comments; later retellings should not be mistaken for a newer update.
Yasbeck and Ritter’s relationship
Yasbeck and Ritter met in 1990 at a table read for Problem Child. They married in September 1999, nine years after meeting. Ritter died on September 11, 2003, at age 54, after an aortic dissection. He became ill while working on 8 Simple Rules and died later that evening, according to the interview.

What is known about Ritter’s death and the legal case
The John Ritter Foundation describes Ritter’s death as resulting from a misdiagnosed thoracic aortic dissection. The foundation says its work includes funding research, providing education, and raising awareness about aortic dissection. The John Ritter Foundation provides information about that work.
The legal outcome is a separate part of the history: in 2008, a Los Angeles jury cleared the two doctors involved of negligence and liability in Ritter’s death, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. That verdict should not be conflated with the foundation’s description of the dissection as misdiagnosed.
