No actor has been confirmed as the next James Bond. In an official update on May 14, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios said the search was underway but declined to discuss casting specifics. Names reported in the press are possibilities, not an official shortlist—and the available reporting does not substantiate a 16-actor ranking by likelihood.
Who will be the next James Bond?
As of Amazon MGM Studios’ May 14, 2026 update, casting was underway and no successor to Daniel Craig had been announced. The studio said: “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.” Amazon MGM Studios’ update

That is the firmest answer available: the search is active, but the casting decision remains private. Reports naming actors do not establish that they have auditioned, received offers, or made an official shortlist.
Which actors have been reported as possibilities?
Press coverage has attached several names to the conversation, but it does not provide a verified 16-person candidate list or evidence that one actor is more likely than another. The following names are reported speculation, not confirmed contenders.
#1 Best Overall
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Named among circulating possibilities by Euronews and described as an oddsmaker favorite in an Associated Press feature. Neither report presents him as confirmed or as part of an official shortlist.
- Callum Turner: Named by Euronews and TheWrap, and described as an oddsmaker favorite by the Associated Press. This repetition makes him one of the more frequently reported names in the cited coverage, but does not prove studio interest or a casting advantage.
- Jacob Elordi: Named by Euronews and TheWrap and described as an oddsmaker favorite by the Associated Press. These mentions remain speculation rather than confirmation.
- Jack Lowden: Included among names circulating in Euronews and TheWrap coverage. The cited articles do not establish his casting status.
- Louis Partridge: Named by Euronews as a possibility; the cited coverage does not establish an audition, shortlist place, or offer.
- Tom Francis: Also named by Euronews as a possibility, without confirmation of casting status.
- Harris Dickinson: Named by TheWrap among actors circulating in speculation. That report does not establish official consideration.
These reports do not support ranking the actors from most to least likely. Even the names repeated by multiple outlets cannot be treated as a probability order: no reliable published likelihood figures or confirmed shortlist are established in the cited coverage.
Is there a deadline for the announcement?
Producer Amy Pascal told Deadline that an announcement by the end of 2026 was “a good bet.” She described the team as methodical and said it wanted a choice that felt different and exciting, as reported by Euronews on August 4, 2026. “A good bet” is a forecast, not a confirmed date or guarantee; Amazon MGM has not announced a casting timetable in its official update.

Who is making the next Bond film?
Amazon MGM’s May 2026 update identified Denis Villeneuve as director, Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers, Tanya Lapointe as executive producer, and Steven Knight as screenwriter. The studio said development of the next chapter was announced in February 2025, following Craig’s final Bond film, No Time to Die, in 2021. Amazon MGM Studios
The project has a specific leadership team, but its casting remains undisclosed. The publicly named creative roles should not be mistaken for confirmation about who will play 007.

Why Amazon MGM has a central role in the casting
Amazon MGM, Michael G. Wilson, and Barbara Broccoli formed a joint venture to house Bond intellectual-property rights. The transaction closed on March 24, 2025: Wilson and Broccoli remain co-owners, while Amazon MGM gained creative control. Amazon MGM has also said it held distribution rights to all James Bond films after acquiring MGM. Amazon MGM’s rights announcement
This explains Amazon MGM’s central role in the new film, but it does not reveal who will be selected or establish a casting criterion.

What the history of Bond casting can—and cannot—tell us
The Associated Press lists seven previous lead actors: Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. Its April 16, 2026 feature describes the current search as the first new Bond casting in more than two decades. Associated Press
The series’ casting history offers context, not a formula. It does not establish that the next actor must match a particular age, profile, level of fame, or nationality.

Could the next Bond be someone not on the rumor lists?
Yes. Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan told TheWrap that the producers “could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us know about,” adding that there were “lots of good hats in the ring.” His comments describe a possibility, not inside confirmation about the casting process. TheWrap, September 12, 2026
Until Amazon MGM names its choice, any list of contenders is incomplete by definition—and a list presented as a 16-person ranking should not be mistaken for an official or evidence-based probability chart.
