What was Dayle Haddon’s final photo shoot?
The most precise answer is that Haddon’s last documented Vogue appearance was in “The Heist of the Heart,” a portfolio in the magazine’s September 2024 issue. Vogue’s January 2025 retrospective called it her latest Vogue moment. Neither that retrospective nor the other accounts establish that it was her last photo shoot overall, so “final photo shoot” is stronger than the evidence supports.
The portfolio accompanied Blake Lively’s September cover. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, it presented a jewel-heist story inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief. Hugh Jackman played L’Ombre, Lively was “The Cat,” and Haddon appeared as the heiress. Vogue’s original feature provides the editorial’s creative context and credits.
What did Haddon say about working with Blake Lively?
According to Us Weekly’s December 28, 2024 account, Haddon praised the shoot in an August Instagram post. She described Lively as “absolutely delightful, funny and mischievous,” and wrote that Lively helped adjust her dress and Cartier jewels during takes and made sure she was “shining.” Haddon also called Luhrmann “a genius director and photographer” and said his enthusiasm, creativity, and inclusive approach made the experience fun.

Why the 2024 Vogue appearance stood out
Haddon first appeared in Vogue in 1976. The September 2024 portfolio came 48 years later, bringing her back to the magazine in a small but notable role. Vogue’s January 2, 2025 retrospective describes her career as a model, actor, and philanthropist, including her work in the 1970s and 1980s and her later advocacy for graceful aging.
A career that challenged assumptions about age
In 1994, Estée Lauder cast Haddon, then 43, for its Resilience campaign. Vogue described this as the first time the company had used an older model. Haddon later told The New York Times, “I became a spokesperson for my age.” The Associated Press also recalled her account of being told, “At 38, you’re not viable,” when she sought to return to modeling after her husband’s death. Those experiences put the 2024 Vogue appearance in the context of a career that included a return to fashion work and public advocacy around age representation.

Her work beyond modeling
Haddon also acted and worked as an author and philanthropist. The Associated Press reported that she founded WomenOne in 2008 to advance educational opportunities for girls and women in marginalized communities. Her career included magazine covers and campaigns for major beauty brands, as well as later work supporting that organization.

Haddon died on December 27, 2024, at age 76. The Associated Press reported that emergency responders found her at a home in Solebury Township, Pennsylvania, where they detected a high level of carbon monoxide. Township police told the AP that investigators determined “a faulty flue and exhaust pipe on a gas heating system caused the carbon monoxide leak.” The Vogue appearance took place months before her death; the reported accounts do not connect the shoot to it.
