“At the moment, what we have to look at is how many lives have been lost in Gaza, and the innocent civilians, and the lives that are just being lost. There are just not enough world leaders that are taking a stand and speaking up about the humanitarian crisis that’s happening, the humanitarian cease-fire that has to happen.”

Why did she connect the issue to her own life?
Lipa said her concern for displaced people was shaped by her family’s experience of leaving war and by her connection to Kosovo. “My existence is kind of political, the fact that I lived in London because my parents left from the war,” she said, adding that people leave home to find protection and care for their families.
She also acknowledged Israeli victims: “I feel so bad for every Israeli life lost and what happened on Oct. 7.” Her cited cease-fire remarks focused on civilian suffering in Gaza, while this statement expressed grief for Israeli lives lost and the October 7 attacks.

May 2024: posted after strikes on displacement camps in Rafah
After strikes on displacement camps in Rafah, Lipa shared an Instagram post, as reported by Rolling Stone UK. The outlet quoted her as writing, “Burning children alive can never be justified,” and “Please show your solidarity with Gaza.” These are her attributed words in an advocacy post, not an independently adjudicated legal finding. What did her earlier statement say in full?
A December 2023 fact-check by AFP addressed a circulating version of a Lipa statement that omitted her references to Israeli victims. AFP said a member of Lipa’s press team supplied a screenshot confirming the original Instagram story. It read: “With each passing day, my heart aches for the people of Israel and Palestine. Grief for the lives lost in the horrifying attacks in Israel. Grief as I witness the unprecedented suffering in Gaza, where 2.2 million souls, half of them children, endure unimaginable hardships.” The story encouraged donations to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

AFP reported that the original story was no longer available on Lipa’s account, so its verification relied on the screenshot supplied by her press team; the post cannot be treated as something readers can still inspect on her profile. Its “2.2 million” figure belongs to that dated 2023 post and is not a current population or casualty estimate. Read AFP’s December 2023 fact-check.
