Who is Jane Skinner Goodell?
Jane Skinner Goodell is a television producer and former news host. The NFL identifies her as Roger Goodell’s wife, and her professional biography describes her work in television journalism and production. The NFL’s Next Woman Up profile also includes her account of how Roger asked her father for permission to marry her.
Her reporting and anchoring career
Skinner Goodell’s biography says she spent 20 years as a reporter and anchor. Her television work included local stations in St. Louis, Milwaukee and Portland, Maine, as well as Fox News in New York. At Fox, she hosted Fox News Live and Happening Now with Jon Scott, and appeared in the Skinnerville segment on Studio B with Shepard Smith. Her official biography does not date that 20-year career figure.
From news host to producer of women-in-sports stories
Her later work has focused on women’s contributions to football. Skinner Goodell created and co-executive produced A Lifetime of Sundays, a documentary about the NFL’s first 100 years viewed through the experiences of four female team owners: Norma Hunt, Virginia Halas McCaskey, Martha Ford and Patricia Rooney. Fox News reported that Fox Nation planned to begin streaming the film on February 10, 2020; that announcement does not establish whether it is available there today. She is also credited as co-executive producer of Earnin’ It: The NFL’s Forward Progress, a television series and podcast about pathways for women in professional football. Her biography lists the project alongside her documentary work. Jane Skinner Goodell’s biography provides her production credits.
In Fox News interview coverage published February 2, 2020, Skinner Goodell described the owners featured in A Lifetime of Sundays this way: “They’re the generation of ‘we.’ They’re [not] the generation of ‘me’ where we’re about kind of selfies and talking about ourselves and our accomplishments. They’re very much the opposite of that: team, family, and community — that was super refreshing,” Goodell said. The remark is her description of the women profiled in the documentary, not a measured claim about them. Fox News’ interview coverage reported the quote.

Education and other roles
Her official biography says Skinner Goodell earned a BS with honors in Communications from Northwestern University and an MS with highest honors from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. The same biography lists her on the boards of the Women’s Coaching Alliance and Dia Art Foundation; board roles can change over time. Her biography is the source for those education and board details.

In the NFL profile, Skinner Goodell recalled Roger asking her father whether he could marry her. She said her father replied, “I’ve prepared her so well for this life.” The profile confirms the anecdote through her recollection, but it does not give a wedding date.
